    • Ever wonder what dealer service techs really do with your car? Watch how the Mercedes-Benz Canada Mississauga dealer services an S63 AMG

What does an S63 AMG go for? It starts at $147,500. For that money you expect a premium dealer experience just as the dealer expects a premium profit. This video confirms what many of us fear when dropping our high end cars off at the dealer. They do not give a shit about it and rip you off.

The service techs are not exactly the clientele that buys $100k+ cars like the one they are 'servicing' here. You can tell by the way they speak but also what transpires.

The S63 literally gets 11 minutes of service time. Anyone want to venture to guess how many hours they bill for what really is minutes of work? How much money do they manage to rip off people in this manner?

The rest of the time the techs take the S63 for a joy ride. Seriously, they even take the customer car through a drive-thru.

The frosty shakes they pick up melt and leave a sticky residue in the cup holders. Infuriating.

The manages calls to say parts in the trunk were supposed to be installed but the techs instead go 'road testing' the car. How many of your cars do you think techs 'road tested' in this manner over the years?

What do you expect from people who are not even able to master reading a work order? Should they really be working on $150k+ cars?

So, is that all? No, the techs go over curbs at 50+ kph and crack a rim.

All of this while talking down on the customer during their joy ride.

The service manager attempted to blame the owner but fortunately he has a dash cam.

What do we learn from all of this?

      1. Ideally, avoid the dealer for work.
      2. Get a dashcam and have it running the whole time at the dealer.
      3. Never buy or take a car to Mercedes-Benz Mississauga.

shouldn't we say be careful where you take your car? you think a tech at an independent shop has a background check from the fbi and is a model citizen?? Its a crap shoot just the same. And fyi a mercedes tech makes north of $40 an hour. This is horrible to see, had my r8 in the shop for 3 weeks over a tire pressure monitor and i was horrified

Not exactly. Independent shops don't have such volume and so many employees.

A quality independent is far different. I don't think it's a crap shoop I think it's a matter of finding a good shop.

why any different from finding a good dealership? Plenty of things can go wrong anywhere, myth that these smaller shops that answer to no one, doesnt have all software and tools, and require no certifications are better. Never mind 0 recourse with oem if something goes wrong in an independent

Reading the comments on the youtube page is a joke, "its a 150k car let other people enjoy it" umm no. How about you broke $#@!s out there get a job, and maybe you'd understand what its like to possess things of value.

        Exactly.

        The youtube comments are cancer.

Dealers are too big to care and have too many employees.

I prefer independents for quality control but that's me.

well look i don't know if you guys remember but I run a car dealership and I'm obviously a enthusiast, no way do I allow an atmosphere in my store that would allow for this, of course anyone can have a rogue employee but some places are very loose. As a car nut i treat peoples cars with the upmost respect in my store.

As a side not just today i was talking to my master tech about things we can do about getting some of the aftermarket mod business out there, we discussed a local independent shop that has a really good reputation. I went and checked my records and we had fixed 6 cars with a locked ecu over the last year and a half. An indigent shop just can't afford all oem software tools. And again this is a really good shop that i know the owner

He should have left the time in the video from 13:37 to 14:10 and just sped it up instead of taking it out. 11 minutes was from 14:11 to 14:22 but the car was in the bay from 13:37 to 14:22.

I'd be pissed if they used any of my cars for a group-run to get fast food, working in a shop their clothes aren't exactly clean and I doubt all the seats had covers put on them. I don't buy the bent rim, GPS speed was off the entire video, no evidence going into the parking lot damaged the car.

I dropped my car off at the dealer for some warranty work and it came back with pink/red paint on the rear bumper and trunk. Not sure what they did but they got out of it by saying they couldn't inspect the condition of my car when I brought it in, because it was 'dirty'. Watch out for this shady tactic from the dealer, and take photos of your car when you get to their service garage so you can compare when you pick it up. I don't know how much more I'll even take my car to the dealer, but I like the idea of a hard-wired dash cam to see what they do with it when I'm not there.

The rags on the car wash machine should give you a real good idea of why not to go to the dealer.

Notes on the work order should have read...

        (1) customer bought own parts, in trunk
        (2) customer has monitoring equipment; gps, audio, video and a good lawyer.

then again the tech didn’t even read it......Click here to enlarge

Maybe, maybe not. Replacing a cracked rim should the least of what they offer to do.

        Same.

        Anyone have any good suggestions?

I used to be a valet. Dash cam is a MUST guys. People will not respect your property. Certainly not teenagers working for tips.

All the more reason to hardwire your dash cam. Can't unplug it.

Speaking of which any decent semi inexpensive ones people can vouch for? I should probably just make a thread...

A lot of stuff on kickstarter turns out to be too good to be true.

If it works as advertised I'll buy it.

Maybe better to just have a front and rear facing camera that is more concealed? Looks easy to rip this 360 thing out of place.

They are already shipping kits to the backers.
One of the things I like about this unit is that it alerts you that something is going on with your car and turns on automatically if the car is disturbs and starts recording to a cloud service. So any idiot that decides to rip it out will end up with their face on video committing the act.
