    • The Mercedes-AMG G63 is actually faster than the G65 and the better buy - M157 V8 vs. M279 V12

It certainly is cool that Mercedes-AMG sticks their M279 6.0 liter V12 under the hood of the G Wagon. It is a perfect compliment to the big, heavy brute. The G65 also starts at $221k which is quite the premium over the $142k G63.

What if you were to learn the G63 is cheaper, quicker, faster, handles better, and lighter than the G65?

Seriously, it's quicker and faster according to Car and Driver's testing:

It also grips better although neither one is exactly going to tear up a roadcourse:

      Curb weight:

      G65 6000+ lbs
      G63 5624 lbs

Why pay $80k more for a slower, less efficient, and worse handling G Wagon? Apparently, because you can afford to.

This is one of those times where the smaller V8 is the way to go.

I think you buy the V12 one just because you can, and despite being worse in every measurable way (besides cylinder count) it's still awesome.

I'm actually more shocked that the GLS63 topped the handling chart and pulled .91 G? That's a lot of grip for such a behemoth.

Impressive. But can the X6M transport 7 people in absolute comfort? I might argue the X6 can't even do 4 adults..

Have you ever been in a g wagon? Nothing about their ride is comfortable.

The new one will probably be super comfortable. They gave it independent suspension and made the chassis stiffer and interior looks better.

Its not going to be as good offroad but lets be honest, no one ever took them offroad.

        V12 or bust.

You buy this car just for the status. It's not like the V8 is going to win races too. 0.58G is laughably terrible though. Click here to enlarge

If you look at the quotes we were talking about the GLS63 not the G Wagon. Also the G Wagon doesn't fit 7 people. But I have heard Renntech's (expensive) shock kit for the G Wagon does improve the ride significantly.
