    • The new W176 Mercedes-AMG A45 laps the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 7:48.8

To put this time in perspective it matches the BMW E92 M3 GTS. That definitely tells you how far four-cylinder have come as well as the A-Class in general. The W176 is the third generation A-Class but the second generation A45 AMG.

It features a beast of an M139 2.0 turbo four-cylinder which is currently the world's strongest production four-cylinder motor. You also get an updated 8-speed dual clutch transmission sending power to all four wheels.

Sport Auto gets a great lap out of the car but there is an issue during the test:

There was a little gearbox failure (component protection) at 7:59. The gearbox suddenly went into "N". Loss of time: 0,8 seconds.
Fluke? Maybe. Either way in theory they could improve on this time by almost a second.

This is definitely a respectable little performance car and entry level AMG.

      Car: Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+, 421 PS, 1625 kg; Driver: sport auto's Test Driver Christian Gebhardt; Track: Nordschleife; Laptime: 7.48,80 min; Tyre: Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R MO1

Saw this engine being handmade few weeks ago during my visit to AMG factory, realling an amazing little engine, and what a environment where it is built!

Extremely disappointed that they won't bring it stateside. The hot hatch market would love it if priced competitively.

Hatches suffer from the wagon stigma in the US.
