    • Audi, BMW, and Daimler join together in effort to create autonomous driving alliance

Well, this this is the official beginning of the German brands effort to take the driver out of the equation. It is just a matter of time before your car drives you around and that is exactly what Audi, BMW, and Daimler are partnering together to accomplish.

Clearly they want one standards and to lower costs:

BMW and Daimler said in July they have entered into a long-term development partnership to develop highly automated driving functions to enable "hands off" autonomous driving on highways as well as automated parking.

BMW said at the time the non-exclusive cooperation is open to other automakers and technology partners.

Audi, a unit of Volkswagen Group will announce it is joining the alliance at the Frankfurt auto show in early September
The argument for removing the driver and trusting the computers they will develop will no doubt center around safety, emissions, etc. The cars will be appliances.

It is just a matter of time.
