    • LAAS 2018 - The Mercedes-AMG GT 63S 4 Door Coupe is absolutely gorgeous

Mercedes-AMG threw a curveball with the AMG GT 4 Door Coupe. The CLS-Class was the first 'four-door coupe' and Mercedes essentially started the segment. They decided for whatever reason to use the AMG GT 4 Door coupe name now for what still could be called a CLS.

Initially hopes were the AMG GT 4 Door would be a lightweight rear wheel drive dual clutch design. Essentially, a four door coupe based on the AMG GT. Instead, this is an E63 base just like the previous generation CLS63.

Mercedes-AMG needlessly complicated things and seems to be trying to increase profit margin using the AMG GT name here. The CLS-Class now slots in at a cheaper price point compared to the GT 4 Door but it only goes up to a CLS 53 AMG model.

Forget all the naming confusion and focus on the design which is admittedly beautiful. Mercedes-AMG had the 4 Door GT wearing a beautiful matte blue paint job and the interior featured elegant yellow stitching. The contrast worked very well.

The AMG GT 63S 4 Door Coupe may share the E63 S drivetrain but it works very well and set the production 4-door lap record recently on the Nurburgring.

It certainly can back up the looks with performance.
