Remember the 1996 Stang Cobra where they overrated their hp to 320?. Found out it was really 305hp. Disappointed many Stang fans.

It was underrated you mean. And yes, that was due to an error in the exhaust manufacturing. I would say Ford more than made up for it with the '03 Cobra.

Also, it was the 1999 Mustang Cobra.

No I think he meant overrated. If ford claimed 320 and it was really only 305 they overrated their HP.

Im trying to remember if this was the case with the 1996. I vaguely remember this.

Maybe it happened twice but I distinctly remember it being with the 1999. They revised the intake/exhaust and got the 320 hp rating. It was the 99 that got the 320 hp rating and the upgraded 4.6 modular V8 with 4 valve heads and 320 hp over the 305 hp 1996.

That's because some new Cobras were found NOT to be making the 320 horsepower they are advertised as having. After a wave of owner complaints caused a stir, Mustang engineers were forced to spend much of the summer investigating possible reasons for the less-than-potent '99 motors, and how to remedy the situation. Meanwhile, in an effort to get a grip on the problem, SVT slapped a temporary hold on retail delivery of the remaining '99 Cobras left in dealer stock until they can all be inspected and fixed.
