What's the point of Painter's tape?

So I see everyone using it when they polish and/or wax their cars....what's the use of painter's tape and when do you use it?

Also, where should you use it?

Some polishes, glazes, sealants and waxes will stain your trim pieces (rubber, vinyl, plastic). They can leave white marks behind that make the car look pretty bad. If you clean the trim right away you should be totally fine. However if the sun bakes it in for weeks and months it can be extremely difficult to fully remove it. Therefore if you use painters tape on trim, lights, etc. you can prevent this problem.

If I'm applying just a coat of sealant or wax I usually don't tape of the trim I just try to be really careful. If I'm doing a full detail tape is a huge help. I feel the tape helps me work with more confidence and do a better job getting right to the edge. I've ordered some of the new Megs tape but it's not going to be in stock for a while, but hopefully we'll have some for you guys if needed. Let me know if you have any other questions.
