SL600 takes top spot with an 11.15@125.54

Just meandered on in here and saw Andy's SL65 times, and decided to post up my lil ole 600 times. There's a few SL600's out there that are certainly faster than me, but to date, I've got the quickest ET.

This was in January 2011, and the air was amazing. Roughly -1000ft D/A

    Mods:

    OE Tuning ECU tune
    Speedriven TCU tune
    BMC air filters
    Muffler delete

Video from a different run that day (11.19)

    First of all, welcome.

Secondly, those are some impressive times! You made a double post but that is ok. Any further mods planned?

    Thanks.

No clue why it double posted like that. I'll probably do a little more tinkering, but nothing MAJOR planned for her. Have a little sumpin' sumpin' in the works though. My philosophy is to try to go quicker than everyone else, with less mods. Click here to enlarge

There are a couple highly modded SL600s out there, that will destroy me, if they ever get the power to the ground on launch.

Thanks Andy, just throwing a bit of chin-music at the SL65. Click here to enlarge

That particular 1.69 was off-idle. I cut a few 1.65s that day, just bringing the revs up enough to take the slop out of the driveline. These cars are very finicky when it comes to break-torqueing. They don't like it.

And if you're lucky enough to find the sweet spot, where you can load up boost, the ECU doesn't kill power, and you dead-hook, you're most likely gonna snap an axle. It's an ugly circle.

That's why I leave softly most of the time. It's more fun when you don't break stuff.

Definitely going to have to play with launch more. We didn't do much right this time out with the SL. I think we mainly overshot the converter by bringing revs too high on launch. Looking forward to round 2.

1.65 is hooking for sure, what wheel/DR setup are you using if you don't mind me asking?

    Thanks!

I moved recently, but I was living on Ft. Detrick. My wife and I love to drive around, but I honestly don't know the area that well so I couldn't tell you where I am usually other than on I-70. I am near Ft. Meade now in Odenton. I've never actually bumped into anyone online that has seen my car in person as I work shift and the BMW CCA meets really aren't my speed. Let me know if you end up doing anything in the area as I'm on vacation at the moment Click here to enlarge

As soon as I added the Speedriven TCU and let Jeremy (OE Tuning) tune the car, it got faster. Not sure how much the TCU is helping, but I'm putting down more HP on Jeremy's tune, without a doubt. Had amazing D/A that day too.

Yeah, if I were to get rid of the cats, the car would be on a serious diet. Those things are the size of those Heineken mini beer kegs. I'm just not sure how far I want to go with mods though. It's plenty quick, still runs like new, and owns the SL600 ET record, with just a tune. Click here to enlarge

Once you start doing major modifications, the drive-ability will degrade, IMO. I love the fact that I can go to the track in the morning, rip-off near 10 second passes, then take my wife out on the town in absolute luxury and badassness. Click here to enlarge

I agree. but I could tell you the only thing you will feel with the removal of the primaries are quicker spool and a louder exhaust. no driveability issue there. :0

The only downside to that is if you remove the cats make sure to get high flow cats instead, I went with straight downpipes and when I got on it hard, a bit of exhaust fumes would penetrate the cabin. I fixed it by going to high flow cats, 200 cel count.

I did the opposite - came from Odenton to Germantown. I don't know how long you've been in Odenton but since you're on vacation - from 11:00am-2:00pm you should have good luck with some back roads around there. Go down 175 towards BWI parkway - once you cross over the overpass take your 1st or 2nd right onto "race road" (yes that is its real name). take to the end and continue exploring the back roads. No place for cops to hide, no schools - just twisties. Literally had a "short" and "long" track that I would ride almost daily (never really did it in a car but I think it should be just as enjoyable - elevation changes, decreasing radius turns, mini straights, sweepers and hairpins). Also go out to Davidsonville - just look for all the crotch rockets and follow (you'll usually see groups up to ten deep in full leathers NOT POSING). Also On Target has an in-door range (no long guns but it's great for pistols).

Since you are always loath to point it out - I will - the driver's skill has A LOT to do with those times. As much as it pains me to say so, you really are one bad mo fo at the track!!!!!!!!!!!
