    True.
Haven't played FPS for a while though. Not since Half Life 2. You might stand a chance Click here to enlarge

Disagree, what was revolutionary about Half Life 2? Or Half Life 1 for that matter?

    Doom was revolutionary.

Duke Nukem 3d was revolutionary for interaction.

Quake was revolutionary for 3d engines.

Half Life was just refinement of the above.

    Doom was awesome.

Duke 3d was way better though. No game to this date has had the impact on me Duke 3d did. That game made my jaw drop so many times with how awesome gaming could be. I can break toilets and drink from them to get health? Whoa. I can pay strippers to flash me? Whoa. WHOA.

My mistake, I should have clarified. Thinking too far ahead. The revolutionary thing about Half life was ofcourse its story, the graphics engine, and the mods that entailed.

    Think Counter-strike, team fortress etc....

Now Half-Life 2 definitely was revolutionary for graphics and physics in a game. When that game came out, there wasn't anything else like it, not to mention again, the countless mods that ensued.

Hell, even now there are some games released with graphics that ONLY compare to HL2. The story line was definitely awesome, about both. THey can even make a movie outta that, but there are already too many alien movies...

I wouldn't say it would revolutionary in terms of gameplay much, since an FPS isn't exactly that interchangeable, but graphics/mods/rag-doll physics, one of the best I must say.

The story line was nice, the jump I would say was in presentation. Video Games could now be seen as a rival to movies.

Team Fortress originated with Quake Click here to enlarge Quake II was the revolution in FPS modding I would say.

I don't know about that. We always played custom multiplayer maps when we played Doom on the network. With Quake2 you had to have custom maps because the gamemaps were just too big, or boring...
There were a lot of small revoltutions. ID in that time allways made a game that was hardly playable on the hardware you had, just like Crisis now. You allways had to upgrade (doom to the 486/x4 AMD, Monster 3D cards for Quake). Halo made the first steps towards using carlike objects. C&C Renegade after that was outside and fun to see the buildings from my favorite game while walking outside, but the graphics and gameplay sucked. I dropped it like a hot potato when Return to Castle Wolfenstein came out. There it was the atmosphere, sounds and great gameplay.
After that the Unreal series were very popular. We multiplayer played that a lot at the local gamingshop, mostly with 8 at a time, which was situated in the Go-kart center where we used to hang out a lot. The medal of Honour series were great too. After that there were many copiers, but the ones that for me stood out were Far Cry and Crysis. Besides Half Life 2 of course.

Maps and custom mods are completely different things. With Quake II, the game could become literally anything thanks to the engine. ID software's first person shooters evolves from games to just platforms for which to create games. Literally, you were getting a game engine.

Quake II had all kinds of mods some of which grew into their own games. Rocket arena being a great example among others.

Modidng maps and full on conversions are different things. Quake II really took game modding to a whole new level.

I loved playing Raptor..one of my favorite arcade games of all time..

Return to Wolfenstein was a scary game...I hated those half dudes with the electric things...whatever they were. Such a pain in the ass to kill them.

Other people eat shit and die.
