This is a tuned BMW F82 M4 putting bus lengths on a tuned Mercedes W204 C63 AMG Black Series

This race is simply a beatdown. To those that know the cars it should not be all that surprising. Both cars feature tunes from PP-Performance. The C63 AMG Black Series M156 engine is already in a high state of tune from the factory. As the 6.2 liter M156 engine is naturally aspirated and tuned aggressively by AMG there is not much room to gain power on the car. Certainly not as much room to gain with a tune as there is with the turbocharged M4.

The cars put out very similar wheel horsepower figures in stock form as the C63 AMG Black Series shows ~430 wheel horsepower on a Dynojet. With a tune this can approach the 460 wheel horsepower range depending on how aggressive the timing is and the fuel quality. The stock torque figure is roughly ~405 lb-ft of torque at the wheels whereas the S55 in the M3/M4 shows 429 lb-ft of wheel torque stock.

Once tuned, even with a modest tune, the M4 exceeds the C63 Black Series. Horsepower rises to over 479 at the wheels and torque at the wheels goes to 484 lb-ft. Combine the power and torque advantage with a quicker shifting dual clutch transmission and the M4's roughly 400 pound lighter curb weight and you get the result you see here. Not to mention the C63 AMG Black Series aerodynamics also create more drag.

The M4 continues to pull impressively to 175 miles per hour and the C63 AMG Black Series is too far back to even be seen. AMG fans will no doubt be quick to point out that if you boost the C63 AMG Black Series things change in the other direction.

Forced induction!! Gotta love it! Will be interesting when the new one is out. Wonder if the weight will be it's biggest fault along with trans? I really believe the s55 will be tested to max a lot sooner than the little brothers before it.

The M156 is still the better motor of the two.

Will be interesting a year from now, seeing tuned M4 and W205 C63 going at it. Since the 4.0tt is also going in the AMG GT, I see the powerplant getting a lot of attention. AMS should have some deadly Alpha packages for it.

The new AMG V8 is going to chew up the S55, spit it out, and laugh at it.

    It is like Formula1.
The cars go like hell with enormous torque, but they sure don't sound like they used to.
In the end performance is what counts most, but you do lose the sound sensation M cars used to have.

The M6 looks better and has a V8. The M4 is great though.

aside from the new f1 being much slower than the outgoing, the 80's turbod f1 cars sounded amazing... m performance exhaust makes the s55 sound pretty good imo.

    You are wrong there.
The new turbo F1 motors are much faster than the old atmospheric engines.
Other restrictions like aerodynamics and tire compound have resulted in somewhat lower F1 laptimes, but overall acceleration and top speed have not been this high in a long long time.

You can't compare modern suspension to past as well as tires.

I think in the 70s/80s, yes the turbocharged mills of the past were MUCH more powerful than anything we have seen in recent years. However, the latest turbo 6-s are NOT as powerful as the old V8 engines UNLESS you are including the electric motor/hybrid assist (or whatever you would like to call it). Numbers aren't really easy to find these days, but Renault said that without power assistance, they sit around 650-675 PS - the V8s are well over 750 PS. I wouldn't say they are much faster - they might be faster all inclusive, but the engine alone - I don't think that's true. I am curious though if anyone has any official numbers - do you have numbers to share? You seem to be up on F1, so am genuinely curious.

    Cheers.
