Exclamation SIGN THE PETITION to move the 25 year import ban to 15 years

I've always thought it was ridiculous that we can't import cars unless they are 25 years or older. The number of people importing is insignificant in the grand scheme of things, so I don't buy the safety/environment arguments.

The petition needs 44,000 more signatures by September 5 - let's see how many we can get from BimmerBoost so I can import my beloved 1998 Fiat Multipla. Click here to enlarge Click here to enlarge

On a more serious note than the Fiat (Click here to enlarge), I would LOVE to import a Land Rover D90 from South Africa that had BMW's M52 engine. Sweet.

Some of these rules make no sense. Car from the 1950's that folds like a tomato can in a crash? No problem. Drive it as much as you want. Hell, don't even smog it. Let it pollute.

Car built in the past 5 years with modern everything? No. Nope, can't have it because it hasn't passed our federal regulations. Yeah, well, the 1950's car wouldn't pass either. The new car would it is just a matter of cost.

It's mind blowing how stupid this is.

since the car industry here in Australia is about to fold

they're considering doing away with ADR's and import restrictions!!!...ish

AFAIK, they're planning to completely remove import restrictions on at least <12mth old vehicles

and maybe up to 5 years old!

dirt cheap GT-R's for all! (well, relatively)

And maybe even extending to all RHD cars built to a high global standard (cheap euros for all too!)
