    I did 20 in a 5 mph zone...

The judge looks at me and said "sir you were going 4 times the speed limit, what do you have to say for yourself?"

I'm like "doesn't that sound a little harsh?"

    "60+" in a 35 (California)
    59 in a 45 (California)

    and most recently,

    124 in a 55 (North Carolina)

I came out of that one pretty much unscathed but my wallet was about $1200 light from lawyer fees. Still better than getting insurance/license points.

Man, I don't know what to say at some of your peoples luck.
50 km/h over the speed limit here = drivers licence revocation.
    1st timer--10 days revocation
2nd timer, at least 6 months revocation, depending on the severity of your deed. +70 over => car impounded and possibly sold.
3rd timer, lose drivers license, take new exams all over.
O, and a dizzymaking fine in all cases.

Yes, they are. 30+ over the limit will cost 10 Euro per km, for a first timer. The district attorney will set the hight of the fine if in the last 5 years you have been caught for such an event before.
Probation for drivers license revocation is also 5 years.
Fines are doubled when caught speeding near a road construction.

Still, there are countries where it is even worse.
Switzerland is way more expensive, and in Finland you are fined by ratio to your yearly earnings.

I have 2 in my history so far.

One going 50 in a 30 on the service road to the GCP in Astoria Queens
And the other for going 65 in a 35 on Tamaimi Trail in Sarasota FL.
I was too over the limit (partied out) to care about that one. Just glad he didn't ask me to step out.
