1961 Mercedes 190SL with SL65 AMG V12 twin turbo motor + chassis - SEMA Best of Show Runner up

I can't remember the last time a car blew me away like this. It is simply amazing, it gets me aroused, not even joking. I can not even think of a BMW I would rather have than this. This car is essentially a 1961 SL merged with a 2004 SL600.

The car was built by Hot Rods & Custom Stuff in Escondido California. I'm going to find out how much it cost to build, here are the pics in the mean time:

Wow, that thing would be scary at WOT, and not just because of the power/weight ratio.......

As would I, and that twin turbo V12 is really untapped.

Wow... That is an amazing combo. How did they pull that off, must have taken years...

I would be careful going WOT too, something about a 50 year old car with 500 whp. Although it has new tidbits here and there, I'm sure it doesn't have 6 airbags to protect you when you loose control.

I'm pretty sure the brakes, suspension, etc., are all beefed up.

From what I understand they took the body, lengthened and widened it, and put it over the new SL frame. I may be wrong though:

Would be a rush new cars could not match. Something about that feeling of being on the edge without anything to save you.

Has more rubber than I thought. Definitely would be fun, and it could probably be a pretty good track car with some suspension tuning if they haven't tweaked it already.

Nowadays you can add in racing-level ABS and traction control if you want.

I wonder what the weight is, if this is using the modern chassis but with the hard top ditched that would likely save considerable weight....

Ya, basically the same but the black series is modified, completely different suspension, brakes, wider track, etc. Saying Sl65 black series isn't accurate as that is not what it is:

When it comes to the chassis, the AMG experts have put their faith in a new design. The AMG sports chassis has been designed with coil-over suspension – this solution, which has been proven in the realm of motor sports, makes it possible to adjust the pressure and flow rates of the shock absorbers and vehicle level, as well as the track and camber. Drivers can configure their own personal suspension setup, especially for use on the race circuit. Both axles feature newly developed spring links and thrust, camber and tension rods, as well as optimum weight aluminium wheel carriers. Compared with the series production SL 65 AMG , the Black Series has 115 mm more track width on the front axle, and 103 mm more on the rear axle. The new front axle kinematics creates a steering ratio which is eight percent more direct, and the completely revised elasto-kinematics ensures greater steering precision. The result: light-footed, predictable handling.

Same $#@!. This one prob has some suspension work done so it could be modified well beyond the standard SL 65 chassis.

Well I mean the basics are similar but saying it is a SL65 black series is wrong because the SL65 black series is a different car with a modified chassis from an Sl65. One is accurate, the other isn't.

The Sl65 Black Series has some significant changes, throwing springs on an Sl65 doesn't make it handle like a black series. The chassis is also wider, different proportions.

That is sick...it also explains the gauge cluster, navi and shifter from a modern benz. Def an SL chassis.

Yes, it is an SL65 as I wrote in the topic, sorry for the typo in the body. Most of the sites reported it as a 2004 Sl600 so I made that mistake in the body without realizing the typo: http://www.topspeed.com/cars/mercede...l-ar99779.html

You may notice that SL65 is not a Black Series as the Black Series did not exist yet... Click here to enlarge
