M133 A45/CLA45/GLA45 AMG Stage I tune comparison between Evotech, Willall Racing, Powerflash, and Rebellion Automotive

These types of comparisons are hard to come by but incredibly valuable. What we have here are four Stage I tunes for the M133 motor that were tested in Australia on the same car, same dyno, and same day. A stock baseline was set on the Mainline dynamometer at 224.4 kw or 300.9 horsepower to the wheels. The car remained strapped on the dyno as the tunes were changed one by one and the results recorded.

Based on the results, the winner is the Rebellion Automotive tune. Not just because it hit the highest peak power at 324.9 wheel horsepower but because it has the best looking curve of the bunch. It does not have an aggressive dip and is simply very linear and smooth. The Powerflash line by contrast was ahead until it took a large dive and then maintained its curve until redline.

The Willall racing curve looks good until it just takes a tumble for whatever reason. The Evotech tune is the weakest of the bunch with less horsepower down low and an ugly looking line.

Powerflash and Rebellion are the winners here although the Rebellion tune has the cleanest looking run of the four and also makes the most power. A torque reading would be nice to see as well though.

    Wheel Horsepower:

    Rebellion Automotive 324.9
    Powerflash 321.8
    Evotech 315.1
    Willall 307.0

Mercedes Benz A45 AMG Dyno Day Results!

Started the day off with testing an A45 in completely stock form. This was used to ensure that the front to rear torque split on the A45 could be checked and logging of the split ensured accuracy.

    The
test car was tested to determine what temperatures and ramp rates caused the car to go into the ‘cat protection mode’ so this could be avoided on the comparison car.

After a number of runs on this car, power settled at a repeatable 218 kw. The comparison car was then strapped to the dyno.

After a number of runs, the car was consistent at 224kw at the wheels.

This was a prime example showing that no two motors are the same, some will make more power than others. But it also showed that the variance was only 6kw

We used the one same car to test all units. Testing was done in DYNO mode, activated via the dash especially for dyno testing. Note: We have kept this as fair as possible, any question may be answered by the operator Sonny. I am no dyno guru!

Some info of the A45 used:

Grey A45 AMG, Aero kit and optional 19’’ AMG rims. Tyres are 235/35-19 on both ends.
    - 8600Kms on the odometer
    - Fuel was BP Ultimate 98
    - Tyre pressures: Front 42PSI & Rear 35PSI
    - Roughly 8600km on the odometer During run-in period (Always warmed up to normal operating temps first), car was not driven gently. Although I did try to keep it under 4500rpm (-/+ 500rpm) or so during the first 1500km, then drove it hard pretty much afterwards. Oil was changed around 4500km to Liqui-Moly Leichtlauf High Tech 5W-40 along with a new oil filter. - Quoted by owner.

    This made 224.4 KW stock.

    Dyno used:
    - Mainline Dyno.
    - Speed used was 8KPH/SEC Up.
    - Car remained strapped between all tests, and the tensioning did not change
-the distance on the dyno bed did not change whatsoever

    Other factors:
    - Dry air temp in Dyno room was 19.8c
    - Barometric Pressure at 998Mbar’s
    - Relative Humidity at 40%

    Stage 1's used :
    EVOtech
    Willalk Phase 1
    PowerFlash
    Rebellion V2

I don't know if that's fair to say. It's fair to say that in this particular example the Rebellion tune seems to be the most refined on the M133.

Hmm, the Evotech Curve looks a little odd in the higher midrange like from pulled timing. A little hard to believe that this run shows the full potential of their tune. Normally ET makes good and reliable quality. Maybe the car was already too hot on this run, but who knows.

The order they were run was not provided so that raises a question. Evotech does good work certainly but Rebellion also published these results and was aware of this competition taking place so I wonder how much involvement they had.

By the way, I got info from a trustable AMG-Owner that GAD Motors tuned his A45 without a piggyback.Seems they cracked the ECU.Result was 427 PS at the crank. He is waiting for an additonal Turbo Upgrade from GAD now.

I got this info from another forum where the owner posted. I know the owner quite well. He has several AMG's V8, V12, and also the A45, all tuned by GAD-Motors.

His car is the legendary Brabus Bullit which went to GAD-Motors for some additional work, because it was not fast enough for him...Click here to enlarge . Also the GAD-Motors C63 Black Series with M157 Engine Swap and 4x4 is one of his cars.

These are all phantastic custom MB-Builts...

If you know the owner well get us some details please! If someone actually has access to the M133 ECU that is big news.

I can ask him, maybe he wants to share more info but he definately confirmed that they have access to the ECU without Piggybacks. You only must send the whole ECU to GAD-Motors to get the Tune.Maybe on the GAD Facebook Page is coming also more info about this.

Check their facebook page, its there. Seems like they have cracked it. Owner of that A45 says that those numbers are at the crank and with the ECU tune only.
