    Weistec CNC Ported Heads

    http://www.weistec.com/m156cnc.html

40-50 horsepower on a normally aspirated engine. Up to 70 supercharged. Any thoughts, criticism or opinions on this? Has anyone done heads and dyno'd before and after?

The power will differ depending on the supporting mods but I've been in supercharged cars with the ported heads and... well, it pulls nice.

It's definitely something to look into and well worth the money IMO. It should drop boost a little bit ( less back pressure, less heat) but make more power. It's a win/win mod.

Maybe it would make sense to do this before the supercharger... Thoughts on that? I will definitely do the supercharger but maybe doing this first is the right order is progression...

Dont Do this unless you wanna build your engine. Install some headers+Exhust/Supercharger for now since you havent started anything yet. Then, when you feel the need of more power, get your engine built with Heads/Pistons/Valve Buckets/Head Studs. replacing heads is a headache. Therefore, just do it when you want to build your engine.

You will only gain 20-30rwhp from heads on NA engines and 30-40rwhp on a supercharged car

I'd do the SC first. Or both at the same time. I mean it's your money however you are comfortable really.

Do them at the same time, you will be half way down to the heads already anyhow.

So this upgrade adds 40HP minimum on a normally aspirated set up and potentially it could be even more? That's about $120/horsepower but may be even better value than that. Those are some nice power numbers that are almost unbelievable. If those numbers are real, congrats on a great job on those heads Weistec.

If playing with AMG's looking at $ per horse isn't the way to go about choosing upgrades.

Why not, it makes sense to me to pick your upgrades wisely. To me the heads seem like a wise investment (if they do actually make that horsepower). What do you look at when you decide on what upgrades you want to do to your car?

Modifying a car should be done in a way that it rewards you the best return on your investment. I think that goes with most things.

Maybe if you are just born into money where you don't really need to earn a living you can look at it in other ways. For those of us that actually have to earn what we want to spend, there has to be some kind of sensibilities used when building a car.

I look at what is the best upgrade not necessarily the dollar per horsepower. If I'm looking at my 63 AMG I definitely would upgrade the heads as it only helps the entire package and should drop boost (backpressure) and therefore increase efficiency. Heads aren't going to give you the hp per dollar that a supercharger will but they benefit the entire setup.

I think you're completely misunderstanding and working under your own assumption.

What I like about the idea of these heads is 40-50 horsepower naturally aspirated. That could bring my car to 635-645hp - which is impressive without turbo or supercharging. It also sort of feels like less abuse of the engine without forced induction.

Sal, the heads are a great. I would put a 2.3 sc on at the same time and be done with it.

as far as streetability goes, I drove my BS from Weistec to Vegas, put on a set of drag radials and was running 10.7 in 100 plus heat (August). The tires were swapped back and drove back to Weistec.

2.3, huh? I'm surprised you didn't say 3.0. Any reason why? I'm just waiting to go on a vacation so I can be away while my car is being setup...

Yup - the baby sc...Jim (jrcart) and I had our cars out there and told the weistec boys we wanted to go faster. they said they had thought about doing up a 3.0 and the rest is history.

Oh, are you saying the 3.0 wasn't available when you had your 2.3 installed?
