Mercedes E550 4matic Biturbo on the dragstrip

Yesterday I took out my stock 2012 E550 4matic (402 hp) to the strip. The car is loaded, including heavy options like tow bar, panoramic-roof, park heating, active seats, Airmatic, Distronic and so on.

It was my first time one the strip. The track itself was on a hill and basically a closed Airfield from the Russians in the former eastern part of Germany. It was ill-prepared and I did not floor it right at the beginning due to hugh bumps in the track...I kind of feared damage.

However, the car pulled a 13.4s @ 109mph with an 2.3s 60' time. It was 0.6s faster than two other E550 (5.5 V8 with 382 hp from 2010). They topped out at 101mph, as did an E550 from 2008 (W211). However, this guy pulled 13.8 in the very fast manual transmission mode.

    Johannes

What do they use for timing?

If you can't fully launch it that is disappointing as the 1/4 mile time is really about the launch. Still, you got yo run the car which is nice.

Timing was realized with a light barrier. Several of these were positioned at those little white-orange hats, that you can see in the video.

Regarding the 1/4 mile: One has to be aware, that drag racing is very uncommon here in Germany. Remember, we have the Autobahn Click here to enlarge. Just kidding. I life in an area, where population is around 1,000,000 people. However, this track is still ~50 miles away and it is opened only twice a year! So we have to take, what we get Click here to enlarge.

Usually, I do not race my car on that strip, as I hate the pavement. This time, we wanted to see the differences in the following models:

    W211 E550 (382 hp)
    W212 E550 (382 hp)
    W212 E550 (402 hp)

That was the only reason for me to race. To give you an idea, how easy I had been on the throttle when launching: The RWD E550s were always faster than my 4matic up to the end of first gear! I can also post the time slips, if you wish.

Posting the slips won't hurt at all.
