Good question. I'd like to eventually start a business and will need the help of the bank for that. A high credit score helps with everything that is borrowing related. I don't need or want 800, I'm just looking for tips to have a good/high credit score. And I am also curious as to find out what it takes to push past 800.

I have AMEX (not the one with fee and I'm sure people will tell me that the services/advantages will offset the annual fee and so on but I dont' have that much need)

Advantage: we rarely pay for fancy dinner nowadays except for the tips. When you travel, it's automatically covered with insurance (if you buy the tickets using Amex card of course). I get free stuff from Amex all the times (the Bose portable speaker, iPod for kids, etc.).

When you buy gadgets using Amex, if you drop the thing in the toilet within 30 or 90 days I forgot which one, they will send you the new one for nil :-) I dropped my Samsung tablet and broke the screen, they sent me a new one.

Those just a few examples using points you earned by paying all expenses using Amex then pay it off every month. Kinda miss consulting life now as I used to rack up points quickly! Oh well, you can't have it all :-)

You would have to share more details about your credit history.

You're right in the sense that it isn't a huge huge deal but it doesn't hurt. It usually helps.

I was just doing some shopping on Amazon and when I went to check out I realized I had over $100 bucks in rewards from my Amazon rewards card. I don't know why in the world I ever used a credit card without rewards points. I just got a bunch of stuff for free.

I got an offer in the mail today for the AMEX Everyday card.

Since you guys rave about AMEX I thought, well, I'll give it a shot.

Basically, no fee, 0% for 15 months, tons of points, why not?

Signed up and in 60 seconds they approved the card with a $15k limit.

LOL, 15k at 0% for 15 months? Thanks guys. I'll take it.

Great way to get your foot in the door with AMEX. Careful not to make a late payment by even one day as many times that 0% will turn in to 20% starting from day 1.

Never had a late payment and don't intend to start.

General comment for others as well. Assume no grace period.
