Drag strip/roll racing 700plus whp setup

Black 2008 e90 with stock height sport suspension currently on 162s (18s)

im leaning toward 17x9 square or 17x8 front and 17x9 rear.

i dont care much about the looks. They need to be light weight and i want to fit as much drag radial on the rear as i can while keeping it close to the same height. (sidewall, do wants sidewall)

Seems the fronts are 25.09 inches tall currently and 25.03 inches tall in the rear on the 162s.

how much tire can i fit, how much taller is ok? and give me some recommendations for rims and the tire sizes to go with them.

Leaning toward a MT ET street in rear and just keep a nitto invo in the front. The car sees limited street use other than to and from racing and of course racing.

    Pls halp.

At 17 inches you can start to consider bias-ply as well.

Look into Mickey Thompson bias ply 17 inch tires.

I'd only recommend those for the strip as from a roll you'll want a radial.

    Definitely makes sense.

The MT's are a nice tire. Hoosier has a nice radial as well that at least looks like it should offer some serious grip:

as the current rear is 25.03 inches tall

on 17s it seems that 275/40/17 keeps me in the ballpark at around 25.5x inches

i would go a lil taller.. how much would fit?

I don't. I want to stay the same. But I will go a little taller if it gets good sidewall and meat

A lil taller or the same for the gear ratios

I'd look at monoblock forged wheels like Apex, CCWs, etc. Since you're looking to do some roll racing, I'd highly recommend wheels that have tire lock/safety bead, just in case you ever had a highway blowout you'd want the tire to remain on the rim.

Regarding tire selection, you're unfortunately looking for tires with competing interests. With roll racing, you're going to want something with a tougher side wall like a MT Street or Hoosier R6. With drag racing, you'll want something with a softer side wall like a DR. If you want a single tire setup, the Toyo R888 is gonna be the best option... The side wall is "soft" enough that if you lowered tire pressure at the track, it won't punish you at the launch but "stiff" enough that you'll be able to drive aggressively on the street and have the benefits of R-compound grip.

I'm sure if you contact Apex, CCW or whoever else you decide to buy rims from, they'd be able to best advice you on wheel sizing + tires that appropriately suit your interests. I know that if you order from CCW, you can actually order the rims with tires premounted with TPMS, so they could be bolted right on without any headaches or annoying dash lights.
