I am just saying it sounds really high and they may have just given you a price to go away because they aren't interested in the work.

Seeing as you can repaint a whole car a different color(jams and engine bay) for 10k it just seems really high to me. My guess a custom one off should be 6kish tops. I can ask my body guy if you want his prices are fair and does great work. Obviously we aren't close but it would be another quote. then again you drove to Brenn for your tune he is in Waltham, not much farther.

English wheel, weld it on, bang it a bit, weld in supports(just like fenders on a dualie truck) bondo, prep, paint. If someone knew what they were doing I can't see it taking more than a week of solid work. 40 hours of labor x 100 $ an hour shop labor is 4k. How much can some sheet metal, bondo, and paint cost?

    Yea I would wonder....

The shop that quoted me does a lot of custom work and does great work. They had a e90 m3 custom wide body being done while my car was there getting the mtech painted/installed. That's what made me ask so I know they want the work. I thought 10k is about normal for that kinda work but maybe i'm wrong.

Hmm perhaps that is what they usually charge customers? I updated my post above.

Either way it just seems pricey to me to add 4 inches to your rear wheel fenders and respray. Then again what do I know. I mean 5k per side...you better be running baller rims and have stage 3's on order as well if you pay that much.

    really?

i've been quoted $300-$500 a guard from a hotrod shop, english wheel, weld.. just like Torgus said...pretty well as wide as i want it (depending on the shop, i know people who've had it for the 300 and it's amazing)

then it's probably about the same again to get the bumper widened (plastic welding?) then about that again to paint and blend.. so $1800-3000.. depending how lucky i'd get with reasonable shops.

shops are a bit different over here though, that's also a thing to consider

ED: and yeah, $5k a side.. $100 an hour is the UPPER price for body shops, most here i think are around $80~.. say it's $1k in parts (pretty high estimate) and paint.. that's 90 hours of labour to do 2 guards

and for me, that's even custom widening the bumper, as i can't get an off the shelf wide one :/

Lol y'all just don't know how much pain supplies cost lol, especially for specific colors that BMW makes.

10k is about right. I'd even say a little on the light side.
you have to realize what GOOD and mediocre body work is. There is a HUGE difference.

If you're paying top price, I would expect it to look like it was done by a robot in a factory. If not I would come back and complain. I don't mind paying top dollar, but it better be absolutely perfect.

That's what I thought... So yea, my shop was right. Its worth it to use a good shop, honestly the mtech front bumper they painted looks factory and you can't tell it didn't come from bmw. The paint matches perfect, its also done right because 2 years later it barely has a rock chip on it, not some thin spray that gets chipped in 1 month....

its a shop car. not sure they're worried about tire wear. i have never been a fan of PSS either. for a shop car looking for straight line performance, NT05r or NT01.

can't go wrong with these either Click here to enlarge FYI i drive on NT05 and they are by far the best/stickiest tire i have ever driven on. I can't imagine how sticky an NT05r would be.
