Want better sound on my 2013 CLS 550

    Hello guys,
I have a 2013 CLS550 with a Renntech tune and looking for a better sound out of the exhaust. I have read about a Cat or mufflers replaced with straight pipes or x pipes or H pipes. Kind of confused and would like clarification so I can explain to the muffler shop on what I need this week. I'm not looking to replace the complete exhaust system.

Thank you for a great forum.

    S.

Saw that but did he only took away the resonator? Are mufflers are still stock? What about the cat converters?

    Any help would be appreciated.

You don't want to mess with your mufflers. Have your muffler shop delete your secondary cats and see how you like that. If you want to do more, get rid of the resonators and replace with an X pipe.

Deleting the cats will help in more ways than one.

A muffler shop can do this for you. I can't think off an off the shelf solution.

i removed the resonators today. the sound is great. what would have been the benefit from removing the secondary Cats vs. the resonators? The muffler shop told me that the Cats control back pressure and that he did not recommend to removed them as per warranty of the car.
    Any thoughts?

In a turbo car the cats are a significant point of restriction. You remove them you let that sucker breathe.

to clarify, you're talking about the secondary cats, right ? I wouldn't suggest removing the primary cats.

I'd remove all of them and get a tune but that's me.

You won't lose the warranty but you will not be emissions compliant. The tune is more of a warranty issue than cats.

You want to hear them spooling I see well intake and exhaust changes will help with that.

Your only option seems to be new filters right now. I'd worry more about the exhaust though that is where you really want to make changes.

The primary and secondary cats on the M278 and M157 are contained in the same housing.

Ok I took a look so essentially you need an aftermarket manifold then to delete them?

I don't know, but RennTech probably has that information.

So the front cat system by the manifolds are the first and second cats? What's more downstream before the resos then? Is that a first bullet muffler? I was under the impression those were the second cats. I was thinking about removing them.
