AMS working on an "Alpha C" performance package for the C63 AMG - Claims 575 horsepower, 11.7@120 1/4 mile

Looks like another contender is entering the M156 ring although the naturally aspirated tuning market for this car sure is cluttered. No dynographs or timeslips so back it yet:

Theie numbers seem to give crank figures. I think they are conservative caims. Thier gains are huge. 95HP over stock on the P31 package and 110hp on a normal C63.

btw, they have found that MBH headers gave them the best power over any other designClick here to enlarge fo the M156. I spoke with them on the phone. They are aleady working with Mike from MBH

I HATE CRANK DYNOs. Why? WHY?!?! Personal pet peeve, it's so damn annoying. You have access to a dynojet, use it.

Until I see wheel dyno graphs I can't buy into this fully. 95 hp over P31? They need to prove it me.

Is it low? Meh this is why we need dynojet numbers!

Hello everyone. Dyno numbers in this market seem to be very.... misleading. We have seen some pretty tall claims from people and as such some of our dynos have come in a little lower even though our cars are trapping higher. Trap speeds don't lie. For instance at the recent 1/2 mile event in Chicago this package managed to put down 147.5mph. We plan on taking it back to the drag strip really soon where I am guessing we will see a consistent 122-123 trap speed. On our dynojet this car is putting down 480whp.

As far as dyno numbers go, we have been in this business for over 12 years and have built a name based on our reputation for delivering REAL hp. When we post a dyno its legit. The E63 is no different. The only reason we had no tq reading is that the RPM pickup just flat out wasn't working. This same car just did a 6.58 60-130 and a 10.7@135mph. We could not of done that without making the power we are claiming. The car also did 164mph in the standing half mile. I dont think any other 5.5 biturbo as done that in a standing mile.

I would understand the skepticism if we were some fly by night shop that came out of nowhere but we have been building fast cars for over a decade and in just about every market we have entered we have done our best to produce the best parts, the best results and the most power. We hope to continue that tradition with Mercedes and we feel we are well on our way Click here to enlarge

First of all, welcome! Glad to have you here. The AMS name is well respected and rightfully so.

Trap speeds definitely do not lie and I look forward to seeing your results on the strip!

Any way we can see the dynojet graph instead of the crank graph?

There is absolutely no skepticism! This is just more of a hardcore performance forum where we prefer wheel dyno figures. That's all it is.

Welcome to the Forum. Any plans on developing a twin turbo system for this platform or the SLS?Click here to enlarge

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that 10.7 in the biturbo E63 isnt new. Renntech managed a 10.6 on a heavier CLS63 tapping 136mph and they are dynoing 700 whp. I kind of figured the RPM pick-up was the problem. This is the reason you had such high numbers. please try it again with a new RPM sensor and ground sensor attached correclty and you will get the correct figures.

Btw, 6.58 60-130 is just amazing man. good Job and keep that beast smokin. Good luck and I am looking forward to your developments on the AMG platforms.

How exactly is MBH Headers better? They use 2 inch primaries which are large for NA applications. 1 7/8s yielded better gains.

Either way, Kudos for AMS for jumping onto the Mercedes platforms, its nice to see such a big name joining the ranks. Slap some Euro airboxes and aFe filters on this package and some ms109 you'll see some real dyno numbers Click here to enlarge

I dont know where you got that the RPM pickup will affect the HP output on our dynojet as it has absolutely zero effect. I can dyno a car back to back to back with or without that pickup and it wont make a single bit of difference. Trust me we have spun that dyno about 50 times a day for the past 12 years. How do you think we could get a 6.58 60-130 unless we were putting down that exact power? Also that was with an extra shift too. I am sure with just one shift we could better that time.

Also that 10.7@135 was our fist outing ever with the car at that power level. It's only going to get better. The first time we ever took a GT-R to a track we ran an 11.2..now we are down in the 8.6's and just did 60-130 in 3.00 seconds and 0-186 in 10.1 seconds. We dont plan on slowing down with the benz anytime soon.

It's ok if you don't believe our dyno numbers. We will continue to post results and make a believer out of you Click here to enlarge

I tried putting up the C63 dynochart but it wont let me until tomorrow as we have not been a registered member for a full day yet.

    Eric,

Now that you put it that way, I believe you, really I do. I'm not trying to put you down. Your Vbox record is good enough.

The dyno run DOES inflate the numbers when the run is put against speed rather than engine horsepower. Ive played with the dynojet software and I know how it works. That said, your correction that you used was an STD and not SAE, which is an automatic 25-35 rwhp gain. I dynoed an M157 making less whp than what you are making and when switching from SAE to STD , numbers increased ro 32whp.

This is your dynosheet showing a race gas tune of 100 octane:
Agian, not saying i dont belive you or anything. Maybe you should try dynoing it again with the RPM pick-up in place and have the graph showing power vs RPM. I really do think you guys are capable of even putting 800+hp to the wheels. Its nothing strange for you. People here like to see correct data and delta gains from stock. Thats all. Good luck. I know i will be seeing more of your developments.

I just want to clear things up a bit so people know how different dynomometers work. Mustang dyno, dyno dynamics, and any other eddy current absorbtion dyno measure power and torque based on roller weight AND the eddy current power absorption unit. The dynojet measure power purely based on the principle of accelerating a mass, that's it. RPM has nothing to do with power measurement in that case, but it is used to calculate torque.

Dynojet Dyno's measure horsepower, the amount of work being put into the roller to accelerate it or the work over time (horsepower). The torque is calculated using RPM and horsepower figures it measured. That's why you'll see crazy torque jumps or spikes if you get a flaky rpm pickup signal.

In this case we couldn't get a clean RPM pickup at higher load (boost levels). we've seen this on many cars also, on our mustang AWD dyno and the Dynojet AWD dyno (we have both here). lower load level or boost cars will get nice clean tach signals, some higher power and boost level cars just wont' produce a clean rpm signal that the dyno tach pickups can read. We have lower power level readings that on stock turbo's that show torque. I can put those up tomorrow and show the same run vs. roller speed and RPM to show the HP is identical.

The correction factors will be different depending on the atmospheric conditions. Sometimes the SAE correction factor will read identical as the uncorrected number and sometimes way different, again depending on atmospheric conditions. Another thing on SAE correction, it is not accurate for compensating atmospheric pressure on boosted cars! It's ok if you're at a reasonable altitude, but you can't compare SAE numbers from a car at 5000 feet for example. The mathematical calculation for the SAE correction is mean for a NA car, not pressure compensated (boosted) cars.

I can post up SAE #'s tomorrow. Like eric said that 778whp was just the max number we could achieve on the dyno, not what we ran at the track.

For reference we weighed our E63 yesterday on our scale pads with half a tank of gas and it comes in at 4343 lbs, plus my 250lbs with helmet/gear brings us to almost 4600 lbs race weight.

    -Martin Musial

I've met Eric from @ALPHA Performance at YAS drag strip on April in the UAE. He's a really good guy and revealed some upcoming surprises. I think the C package is one of them.
