Poll - $30K price range, fun cars

    Hey BB,

Totally testing the waters here, but im really starting to get bored of my 335i....

    So,
for around $30k, what fun/sports car would you buy? Mileage has to be under 60k and it can not be too un-DD-able (example: stripped interior turbo S2K wont work), and i cant buy a bike (which is my absolute top choice, but for family reasons, its a no go....)

    Some cars ive considered:
    -Mustang GT
-Corvette (Base model or GS if i can find it)
    -STI/EVO

Are there any fun AMGs or Audis at the $30k range? If i did swap cars, it has to be a car with similar performance (or potential) to the 335i.... So give me your choices!

    -Eric

Good thread, good price range. You want something you can mod right?

Yeah, i do, for the most part. I dont really need something that can do 500+Whp though, just some nice bolt ons. Im assuming i can get mid $20s for my car ($23-27k cash, if i find the right buyer, which isnt hard where i live) plus like $3k extra cash, means i can haggle down cars from the 29-31k price range to meet my needs.

Im really open to any ideas. I love the Corvette but im afriad i wouldnt be able to handle that insurance.

Since you listed a Corvette I guess it doesn't matter if it is two seat, four seat, manual, auto, or whatever.

370Z is a great choice IMO.

As far as Audi's, a few more dollars and a 2010 S4 can be had. RS4's are still higher than 30k. I mean you can get a B5 S4 and mod the hell out of it too.

AMG's you can get a W211 E55 which is a pretty sweet ride. This SL55 AMG is just above $30k: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-...item589fdbec04

I mean there are tons of options here.

Oooh forgot to mention, no drop-tops or convertibles. I hate convertibles.

But yeah, ive always loved 370z's. Cheap to maintain, quick, and agile.

How does the 335i with a tune/DPs compare to a stock 370z as far as performance?

Also, how does the interior/technology compare to a 335i with Sports Package seats and no i-drive (just the traditional boring interface).

I'm no expert on the 370Z but a tuned 335i with downpipes will be faster. The 370Z is a ~106 trap car basically as quick as an E46 M3. If you like big gains from bolt ons it's not for you. I would think its more fun to drive though and sportier.

Fun to drive is definitely the most important part.

Thats the one thing about my 335i. It can go from quick (stock tune) to gobs and gobs of torque/power (93 octane agressive boost curve tune), but itll feel like a luxury car, and do it so non-chalantly and be boring...

I hope someone on the forums has experience with both the 335I/370Z and can offer some insight. Its so hard to leave the easily attainable 335i power.... lol

E46 M3 or 330ci will be more fun and better quality than a 370

FRZ BRS should also be pretty fun @Sledgehammer would know. I think anything thats light and nimble would be fun.. but as for performancr, not much does compete with a 335 in that price range

OORRRRRRR.. a used no frills e9x m3 would be my goal..

Idk, i feel the 330ci would be a downgrade from the 335i, and E46 M3s are really hard to find in good condition with a manual (since those SMGs pop a lot). I already looked for a stripped high miles E9X M3 and they were still like a minimum of $35k (and that has close to 100k miles which is somewhat scary).

The FRS BRZ looks like an amazing car but i feel like it would be too much of a shock going from a tuned N54 to that four-banger boxer....But i could be wrong. Those things look wicked though

Maybe i should just invest in some mods that will make the 335i more fun..... Maybe ill throw some BC Racing coilovers on there and try to tighten it up?

The price range your looking, you're not gonna find anything that offers an as complete package as the 335. I think the W211 E55 AMG (5.5L Supercharged V8) might be the next closest thing -- Luxury German car with a bomb ass motor. The power delivery will be similar to the power the N54, nice balance of HP & TQ. With some basic Weistec/RennTECH/EUROcharged bolt-ons (tune, new pulley & heat exhanger), you'll be sitting low 500 WHP/nearly 600 WTQ. BUT the 335 will def handle a lot sharper, especially if you're looking at coilovers.
