E550 Coupe/stock M278: quarter mile time best 12.428/115.13
This is a clip from another site. Not too bad for a stock '12 E550 coupe (no limited slip)
"I made it out to MIR's first test-and-tune yesterday and did a series of runs trying every combination of sport mode, dyno-mode, ESC on/off, etc. Best run of the day was 12.428 @ 115.13mph!
The car ran a consistent 12.5XX all day, and only hit 12.6 and 13.1 (!!!) due to poor launches and a ridiculous amount of tire spin. My friend in the stands said I had billows of white smoke coming off the tires all the way to the 60' line during the 13.1 run!! I blame it on the hot girl that distracted me just as the second yellow lit up.
Anyway, best results came from ESC off, Sport Mode on, transmission in manual mode but allowing the PCM to do panic shifts, and loading the TC with about 2300 rpm. Time slip below.
All of this was with the All-Season Continentals, so I'm motivated to invest in a set of max-performance Summer tires and see how much difference they make".

I should mention that Quaife has finally introduced a limited slip for the M278 E550 coupe/convertible.

That is an awesome time on street rubber. A tune with drag radials and this is an 11 second sleeper. Man, Mercedes is putting out some potent $#@!.
The E550 comes with the 4.7 bi-turbo I believe?2012 CTS V - Sedan - 6AT
Stage 1 Mods:
- 2.5 upper pulley, Ported snout/throttle body, Fluidyne HX, Airaid CAI w/green filter, ID850 injectors
Stage 2 Mods:
- American Racing Headers w/X-pipe, 9.1 Lower Pulley, Tune Time Custom Cam, Moroso Dual Catch Cans, Zl1 Lid, Norcal Tank
Stage 3 Mods:
- LSA ported/polished heads, 4.5" G-Force intake, Nick Williams 102mm T-body, 8.6 Lower Pulley

10.87 @ 127.02 - STAGE 1

It's not my vehicle, although I own one. It belongs to a friend.
Are you asking about opening the roof? Does that make it faster?

Yep, it has the 4.6L bi-turbo M278 (as described by MB, but really 4.663L).
I have driveline concerns with going to drag radials, so that is unlikely to get tested on my car. I'll probably do one more test & tune in stock config. Then I'm putting in the Quaife LSD (available late summer), RennTech Digital Suspension Lowering Module, and air filter upgrade - probably BMC. Once I get a few runs with that setup, it will be time for the RennTech tune.

I don't have any advice regarding drag tires or wheels, but would like to see your results.
When do you plan to get the Quaife? (I might need to delay purchase.)

I brought up the drag radials because I see so many people running them and their 60' times really improve a lot. But the more I think about it, the less interested I become. I love knowing that what my car puts down at the track is also what it puts down on the street. I ignore the fact that the starting pad at the drag strip is prepped.

Very impressive results here from a completely stock E550 coupe. The M278 4.6 liter twin turbo V8 is looking more and more impressive powering this particular vehicle belonging to BenzBoost member nawlinstornado to a firstname.lastname@example.org. That elapased time was achieved with the factory runflat Continental tires and no limited slip differential. The 1.961 60 foot can be improved tremendously with some real drag rubber meaning low 12's are realistically in this cars future stock.
Now, this was done at MIR (Maryland International Raceway) which is a fast track especially when the density altitude drops. It was -621 feet at the time of this run which is definitely a contributing factor to the great results. Regardless, these cars dyno in the 390 wheel horsepower range stock making them very potent and underrated. Now just imagine if Mercedes and AMG make an E63 AMG coupe with the M157 V8.
