FTW Racing Fuels Purple E85 oxygenated race fuel - Before / after dynos

First I have heard of this stuff but the name sure seems appropriate:

I'd run this fuel just to say I did.

Well C16 is probably the next closest gas that'll give you the same performance (allow you to run max boost, very aggressive timing & not implode the motor). C16 is ~$20 a gallon, but because it's leaded it's matter of time until you kill your cats (who cares) or your o2 Sensors (could get annoying if you run C16 a lot & o2 sensors becomes a "normal" expense).

The argument can prob. be made that it makes the most sense running this stuff when you're looking to set records (1/4 miles or 60-130s) or manhandle the competition (TX2k__, Texas Miles, etc etc)

I think Ethanol offers a timing advance gain even over C16.

No sir. This isn't about knock resistance, it actually has more oxygen in the fuel. C16 is not comparable.

Here is a thread with some good info/results:

40whp gain on a GTR with zero timing or boost change.

I understand that the FTW E85 is a higher quality gas, but because these are probably the two closest fuels in quality & performance capability, I was just comparing the pricing.

    • FTW Purple E85 is $165 for 5 gallons (~$33 a gallon)
    • VP Racing C16 is $100 for 5 gallons. (~$20 a gallon)

Are you def going to get better performance with FTW's E85, yes. But is it worth nearly being $15 more per gallon?? Debatable. But when you're spending $20+ for just 1 gallon of gas, rationality & buying the "more logical" product goes right out the window.

I think stickys point is that the fuel is oxygenated, so it will generate more power based on the fact that more air is making its way into the cylinder, outside of the additional effects of the fuel itself. Look up the specs for Q16 to get a better idea on oxygenated fuels.

Ppl are looking at price per gallon but think of the price to get these power gains with additional mods...

Friend did this on a GTR, tuned for E85, changed to Purple FTW. No more advance or boost made minor fuel changes (it does not tune like regular E85). 40+whp

So he ran the same tune, and gained 40whp?

No, I stated he made fueling changes, the oxygenated fuel does not tune the same. Fueling ONLY.

My buddy that has a strictly race track driven drag car was considering trying this for next year. It would make sense in his situation however I see no point on street driven cars. 30% quicker consumption rate and $13 more a gallon doesn't make any sense for dealing with traffic jams. I wonder what it smells like when it's expelled....
