Yeah, I guess this is true. Click here to enlarge

It was just something that was I was saying I was drinking - the double black... All I said exactly was:

Interesting - I was drinking the same thing (Double Black). I agree - it's good, and for the price, it's very good. It has a strong oak/wood taste, but I like it. Me an a buddy finished a 1/5th, and it is something I would to again - no regrets, good stuff.

It's all good though it happens.

The Double Black is good stuff, definitely. I want to try it again. I'm strongly considering the Gold Reserve. I'm moving toward more flavor and intensity now for whatever reason.

If you can, check out a bottle of Green (it's hard to find, but it's possible) - and if not that, then a blue. I am curious what you think of the flavor difference. Black has a rich oak taste, the Blue is different, but hard for me to describe. I am by no means someone to "learn" anything from - I just say what I enjoy, and am curious what others think. If you like Black or XX Black, curious what you think of those.

Not bad for 75 bucks considering it's hard to find: http://www.winechateau.com/sku165188...EN-LABEL-750ML (you can order here)

    Blue is about double (IIRC)

I wonder why the blue is so much more money?

You're right about the Double Black oaky taste though. That's what makes it interesting IMO.

Here's something else you guys might find useful as a resource. I've been researching what Whiskey's to buy (when I first delved into wine I read everything I could get my hands on including the pro's take so I'm doing the same here) and Whiskey Advocate has their awards issue out:

You can click here to subscribe and get the issue for free by simply returning the subscription card with cancel selected: https://sub.whiskyadvocate.com/pubs/...59040705&vid=2

No credit card or anything needed. I signed up and will cancel once I get the awards issue so I have a handy reference guide.

I personally think that the blue is more expensive because of Marketing - however, it would for sure cost more to make because it is aged longer than their other scotches. I know Platinum, which is listed "under" the blue (and usually a bit cheaper) is 18 years, but blue is not marked with an age. I think it's more about the blends they use on blue - but would guess it's also 18+ years.

Glenlivet has some good scotch also, but now I have so many more to try from reading this thread, and will order the free magazine/guide to learn more. I just started getting into this - so know little still.

It's a pretty big world of whiskey. I'm looking forward to seeing just how much the flavors can vary.

Needed something for this weeks March Madness games and I was going to go with the Compass Box Spice Tree but I saw there was one bottle of Angel's Envy left. So, I bought it. It's rated 98 points and I can't wait to try it.

^ Damn thing is so intense and has so much flavor I don't see how you could just sip it to enjoy. It's almost a dessert in of itself.

The port cask really gives it a ton of vanilla and sweetness. This is something you drink AFTER you've had your Scotch and dinner.

One more option for those who want to read up on craft distilling:

    https://www.mhtg.org/system/uploads/.../craftbook.pdf

I'm part way through it. Super interesting (but pretty long).

    Dalmore 15

Twelve years in American white oak ex-bourbon casks then three year finish in three sherry woods.
    Smooth sweet very nice.
not my favorite but certainly worth a shot

Had a ton of whiskey this weekend.

Johnnie Walker Black - The double black is much, much better. That said, the black is not bad and it was the best bottle room service had on the list. Definitely not worth the $110 I paid for it but it's a nice blended scotch. Would I buy it again? Only if there is no other option.

Johnnie Walker Green - Was expecting a bigger deal with how some of you talk about the green. Smooth but too delicate at least for me. I'd prefer the double black over this.

Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve - This was nice. Ultra smooth but soft, vibrant, with a delicious buttery finish to it. Really enjoyed this one.

Oban 14 - I kept going back and forth on whether I liked the Gold Reserve or the Oban 14 better. I tasted them side by side and first impression was the Oban 14 was the better of the two but after some air and the ice melted a little bit I thought the Johnnie Walker Gold Reserve was better. Honestly, they are both fantastic.

Four Roses Single Batch - Didn't like it. I don't know why but I enjoyed the standard Four Roses more than this.

Sazerac 7 Rye - Hated it.

Woodford Reserve - Excellent Bourbon. Highly recommend it over a bit of ice.

Bulleit Bourbon - This was very tasty and I was a bit surprised considering the value.

I'm sure I'm missing a few considering what my credit card statement is showing.
