    Lightbulb E36 M3 or B5 A4 1.8T Quattro for Daily

So I am in a situation now where I need to decide on a new daily driver, preferably $10,000 or cheaper.

I will be using it to travel out of state and 4 doors would be really nice. I've never had a 4 door vehicle. Click here to enlarge

    It must be manual.

I am stuck between an Audi B5 chassis A4 with Quattro and 1.8T or trying to find an E36 M3. The Audi would be better for trips to Colorado/northern states and snow, but I might get depressed if I can't whip the ass end out from time to time....

Either one has plenty of options for respectable daily driver power, although the BMW once setup will be a bit "easier" and less laggy to get the power I want from. The Audi will sip gas better, of course.

I have driven a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro stock in auto a lot and it has really nice suspension. I have not had any driving time with a stock E36 M3. I will be taking care of all maintenance and repairs, of course. With the Audi one of the first things I will do is the Timing Belt. Not sure what the E36 M3 weakness is.

What do you guys think, and where would be the best place to look? I've found some good A4 deals on AutoTrader, but not much for M3s.

Thank you all for your help and opinions! Click here to enlarge

No doubt. The E36 kinda put me off now that I read that we get the crappier motor in North America. The Euro version with a turbo would be nice.

The A4 needs a nice turbo and supporting mods to even get to 300whp. And supposedly a build to get past 350whp because the connecting rods. Integrated Engineering and APR give me some hope for the little Audi motor though. Thinking "Flex Fuel" build.....

Definitely go for the Audi. E36 will cost you a lot more.

You know, I did find a Blue one for around $8,700 if I remember correctly.... It's basically like my 300zx motor but AWD... lol sounds like a nightmare to work on.

    But very tempting....

I agree, but after watching so many S4 video, I think I might sacrifice some modding ease and cheapness for the extra power and sexiness of that 30valve V6 boosting through the gears.

240sx EFR project almost ready for MSR Houston and 300zx build coming up. Need to get a Tom Wood rear driveshaft for my Jeep now too.

I think I'll be ready to pick up a S4 in December. Then hopefully find some snow and a board in Colorado. Click here to enlarge

I vote 1.8t. All you need are rods and you can make as much power as you want. Really easy cars to set up.
