A trip to North Cape (Norway)

    Hi all,
some knowledge of the report already ... so please read on.
Who does not know ... have fun reading

    A trip to North Cape

The idea behind the whole tour ...
... had its beginning in April 2010.

There, we held a meeting of the E90-Forum in Hamburg/Germany. On the plan two days were cars, fun, and learn to know Hamburg ...
So we worked out a program which actually had nothing to be desired ...

Of a beautiful exit, on a visit to the Hamburg Dungeon and Minitaur wonderland-up was enough sentiment towards appropriate Lokjalitäten all there ... Two days full program for all participants!

This meeting had all the parties involved so liked that they asked for another meeting.
So we get together again stzten and worked again from a program that had just three days has it all and around again included a comprehensive package for all participants ...
In August 2010 it was finally time! A fun bunch of people in Hamburg and was unsure of his surroundings ...

Unfortunately, we underestimated the effect and so calls for a third meeting! But we were admittedly out of ideas what to do in and around Hamburg could offer even more ... and it was said one out of a really fun:
"If you want to beat it, then you have probably organize a trip to North Cape!"
... and sometimes there is seriously fast for fun was, after a few days consultation period immediately clear:
"We drive to the North Cape! And with the car!"

    The plans
Well, that so needs a tour a bit of preparation, we were already clear, however, what size it would take eventually, something we were not prepared at first ...

Everything began in August 2010 so that we first developed a basic framework of the tour, our first idea presented in the forum and inquired carefully, because who really interested in such had a tour ... because it was clear at the time only:
We wanted to date around the "midnight sun" at the North Cape are ...

As always, the first response was overwhelming! 50 people expressed interest and wanted to "ride definitely and unconditionally".
The course quickly threw up the question of accommodation, and whether these troops ever get on the ferry ... and most importantly, what would the fun really cost?

So we started planning intesiven! Hotel rooms, ferries, tolls, parking fees, etc. .. and thus first created a basic spreadsheet!
This caused then quickly decimated the number of participants to 20 people who wanted to ride "definitely and unconditionally".
However, we met with our plans for a massive problem: Apparently the typical Norwegian tourists believe the early bird catches the worm!

Because even at that time, a good 10 months prior to departure-virtually all the seats were booked on the ferry, it was then offered a hurry!

This, however, some potential presented the problem that they could not submit as early vacation for the next year and thus remain a core of 13 folks left ...
So quickly was an account set up and we started with the booking of the ferry and hotel room and then after that the final route ...

were quickly shocked ... and what we were up there shows numbers!
At the end of the trip we were about
    7000 km in
14 days of travel, while in
    10 hotels to stay,
    5 countries to visit,
    2x cross the Arctic Circle
1x have stood at the northernmost point of Europe!

Then began the final phase of planning, which raised many questions:
-What laws apply to the roads there?
-How is the condition of the roads?
-What to do in the event of a breakdown?
-How do we communicate with each other?
    -What to take with clothes?
-What documents do we need it?
    , etc ...

But even that we got settled in the next few months and took hold everything together in one file. These have precise information about the route and tourist highlights ... and were just under 200 pages together!

    Hamburg -> Kristiansand (515 km)

We started on the morning of 18.06.2011 (Saturday) at 3:30 clock in the morning. Because our target for today was: Ferry reach!
Busy was the SuperSpeed1 the Color Line Hirtshals (Denmark) to Kristiansand (Norway).

The ferry leaves at 12:15 clock and 90 minutes before Verladeschluss proverbial clock 10:45. As we but according to the route planner a good six hours drive to Hirtshals in front of us and did not necessarily arrive at the last minute there, an early departure was necessary.

To avoid this, our team was already Luxembourg on Friday (6/17/2011) from home and pulled to Hirtshals had taken a room there.
That made sense because it would be until the afternoon before and had been in Hamburg for a short night out early again gemusst. So they could sleep at least halfway ...

The other five teams then met in the morning at 3:00 clock in the yard with me, which worked out easily ...
@ Toivi was the night before came by plane from Munich and had with me was übernachtet.Somit team mini complete!
Leipzig was the same team arrived the day before and had taken just around the corner of a room.
Hamburg had taken the morning team at @ thebigeasy and came over and just ...
Erfurt team had made their way at night and was glad of a fresh coffee!

After a short introduction and a little small talk we made our first on the way to the gas station around the corner ... after all, now stood at 500 km of motorway and we wanted to fill up and only in Hirtshals, just before we go on the ferry. ..
When refueling, then I was out of the radios and the five teams made their way toward the North Cape ...

Torrential rain darkened the mood a little early and the time did the rest ...
But the farther we went to the north, the better was the weather ...

    Kristiansand -> Bergen (440 km)

On this day, the landscape was a bit slow bizarer. Many Passtraßen along the fjords ...
So of course various stops were needed to film and photograph a lot ...
    Here are some impressions ...:

It has been spared no effort to grab the best photo ...

And also ... if we wait again to one of the many ferries had, so we had our fun here.

Of particular note are there some owners of Mercedes-oldtimers have been, they were very nice and the waiting time could be very entertaining ...

The time on board was pleasantly decorated with plenty of fun ...

However, there was also along the ferry routes always great photo subjects!

So we reached after a great day in the evening Bergen ...

And ... it is the first big shock came on the heels!
Because so far everything had gone too smoothly ...
We had booked the Thon Hotel Bergen Brygge including six parking spaces and it was all so well confirmed!

It all started when in front of our hotel have any long-haired types hanging around, who were under quite a influence of alcohol. In order to secure some of our vehicles remained outside while the other
wanted to check. But unfortunately, we first found our reservation and did not tell us that it was fully booked ... as we were then clarified, was bad news 2: You would have no
Parking-höchtens the back of the hotel. But which are closed because of the heavy metal concert ...

So we had to put us in a garage 500 meters away for 30 € per night and car. Back at the hotel was shock number 3:
The rooms were so absolutely nothing in common, however, with the description on the HP was each hostel is a 5 * hotel ... and then there was the matter with the show ... all sounded something like this:

We did it ourselves-but not angry at some point had the crash once the yes!
In addition, we wanted to see something of the mountains and the stomach also demanded action after ...
So we then went off well ...

And were successful at Egon ... ...

Of course this is not haute cuisine, but the "all you can eat pizza buffet" for 99 NOK then price was reasonable and hunger!
So we sat there for a while in order to escape the loudmouths in front of our hotel a little late in the evening and fell dead in the bed!

Love the pictures. I think scandinavia is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

The problem is, I was waiting for the naked norwegian $#@!es because this thread is in NWS.
Some people live long, meaningful lives.

Other people eat shit and die.

I'm not racist, I hate everybody equally; especially fat people.

    Hahahahahh!

First of all, awesome and incredibly well detailed thread. Thank you for taking the time.

I was wondering why you put it in NWS though. I thought it would be some kind of sex trip when I saw that. I too was expecting too see Norwegian prostitutes.

    Steinkjer -> Fauske (530 km)

Also on this day, the weather did not look better ...
However, we talked again about the old days! Clock precisely 7:30 we rolled from the hotel parking lot, further north ...
Actually the day started pretty good ...

And ... it seemed even briefly elucidate times.

But it happened unfortunately the very thing we all feared.
In "Team Leipzig" the motor control lit up and the car jumped into the emergency program. Idea of continuing on was impossible to imagine that!
After several phone conversations with BMW in Munich and a briefing with each other, we decided the following:
"Leipzig team" turns around and goes back in the emergency program to Steinkjer-where a BMW dealer is located. Let them see what is in the car and then follow with a rental car or your own.
The rest of the troops head towards Fauske and meet up there in the hotel ... everything else will then be discussed by phone.

So we drove on and got a lot to see ...
A special moment was certainly, as we paused at a waterfall and go right into the middle ... could

Otherwise, the weather was still modest and we spent a lot of time so that once again, to wait for ferries ...

Since we had to wait anyway for our "team of Leipzig," we came to a stop in the village Halsöy of the grandiose idea to leave the E6 and 78 on the route to drive along the sea ...
The track was really impressive and offered a great view ...

But ... the road condition was more than modest! Moreover, had "Team Leipzig" gemeldt now! The car was running again and they were in the "rush" on the prosecution and because we still wanted to stop in Mo i Rana near the Arctic circle, we turned to the next way back to the E6 ...
North of Mo i Rana, it is then also really sad. Moreover, the rain turned increasingly to sleet and let the faces of all those involved are getting longer ... because even if the scenery is impressive, with time it will be long-winded but really, if it only looks ...

But then we got closer to the Arctic Circle and on radio you could hear the spirits go up significantly ...

And then we were already at the Arctic Circle, a large step toward the goal of our journey ...

Of course, we also made a photo of each individual stone in front of the Arctic Circle, but that would now go beyond the scope.

We were glad our bones ... not all have to move very much. Because of our alternative route we did not go as planned 530 km, 660 km but ...
As our "team of Leipzig" was recorded between the right way and no detour as we had made the one hour trundled after us in the hotel one night ... So we sat all together in a room with 13 people and destroyed them our purchases from Afternoon ...

Actually, the North Cape was planned for the next day. But the majority voted for the following plan:
All hands off to bed to sleep until 19.00 clock and then go to the North Cape, so that we too are there on time at 0.00 clock!
Thus we have the next day was also sometimes a little leisure which it subsequently emerged as a stroke of luck, but this later ...

Right on time at 23:55 clock we were on the North Cape cliff at exactly 0:00 and entered the hall clock, which we were all set as a goal ...

A little shocked by the bad weather ... but we had hoped to see the Northern Cape as follows:

"An hour ago was still the most beautiful sunshine!" In order to substantiate their statements, we could also throw a glance at their cameras Find, was documented on the time of the glorious sunshine with beautiful Cape with ball ...So we sneaked back to the North Cape Hall and procured our frustration about the weather first air so that we shop in the credit brought to glow ...

So we had to go back outside into the cold water, because in the meantime had been joined to the fog still plenty of rain.
So we left the North Cape Hall and discussed outside for a moment whether we should wait until 10.00 clock and hope for better weather.
But the tiredness won and we decided to take us back on the road to Alta ... because after all we still had 240 kilometers to us ...

To give a sense of history further, I must give at this point some additional information:
The North Cape is pretty rough and rugged cliffs and the rocks so that vehicles can also use as a parking lot, you just large pebbles spread up there and trying to get all kind of plain! Really, this is not successful, it look great anywhere from the gravel ledges out ... and that should have consequences!

So we snuck in allerschlechtestem weather back from the cliff down Max. 30 kph and it was 10 meters away not even the fog lamp of the front-man to see more variety of reindeer on the road ... so it was not very fun endeavor more.
And then came the meltdown: A few kilometers away from the North Cape reported "Hamburg team" over the radio:
    "Stop, we have flat feet!"
Due to bad weather, we saved ourselves, but still good 2 km in a tunnel and stood there fixed with horror on the M3 rear left puncture!

That was now the absolute worst case scenario!
For an M3 in Norway is as rare as a 6 in the lottery ... but necessity is the mother of invention, and so we came at least once to test the included tire-fit system. So the car was first again after a few minutes and we were ready to drive with max. 80 km/h- as if it was re-run so do not slow enough already on the path toward Alta ...

... With the only difference being that now the M3 took the lead, if the tire should not remain tight ... because the hole was apparently quite large, on what could be seen in the leaked amount of tire-fit stuff. ..

This however was also the possibility to make calls with BMW on the way forward! On a positive note, that on the night, at 2:00 clock hotline also reached someone ...
Less positive was the result of the telephone call, then:
    1. The nearest BMW dealer is 600 km away scarce
    2. He will not have a tire-and so also order only after payment
    3. So a tire costs in Norway about 1000 € plus taxes ... so good in the end € 1600
    4. We had two of the tires used, because they already had 25,000 km on the clock ...
    5. With the tire fit in there you should not drive over 50 km
That did not help us and so we went against the recommendation of the BMW hotline, the remaining 220 kms to Alta-but without any idea how it would go further ...
The only positive was that the weather again cleared and we could actually go open again ....

Back in Alta, we first briefly admired the old VW bus in front of our hotel ...
... And the pitch-black rims on the mini now 4000 kilometers ...
But since it was already 6:00 clock in the morning, we went to a first round of the ear ....
Meet for breakfast at 10:00 was then clock!

While some in the conservatory, a well-deserved day "free" indulged ...

We had to ... see if we can get the M3 fit again!
After several phone calls later, BMW made it clear:
    1. Car rentals are not due to a flat tire!
    2. Next BMW dealers are still 400 km away
    3. Tires are not available, takes about 2 weeks until the site is ...
    4. There are only 400 km a contractor who can change the then ...

The whole thing was stupid to us but then, so we started at random times just to look, what you can do now ...
First stop was of course the target gas stations in town-but there is no one dared approach, because the machines max. "You can edit and would give no guarantee that the 19" rims 17 of the M3 will remain intact ...

We had almost given up hope and were on their way back to the hotel, as we are in a VW / Audi dealers were passing. Who stand in the yard a Touareg with 20 "rims and yes someone had to have installed.
Since usually no one is working in Norway at the weekend, we were doubly lucky there also found someone else ...

Having been discussed with the dealer all the usual stereotypes of BMW and Audi, which had reached a boyfriend who has a tire service. This was also willing to interrupt his weekend and the first tire to look at!
So we made our way to the tire dealer and was also the first tire from the rim ...
He had on the way perhaps because the first left-Tire-fit stuff was still liquid and spilled in significant quantities only in the tire then through his workshop ....

After we had repeatedly assured him then that with the tires just want to come to Germany and then to not take security a top speed of the M3, he agreed reluctantly willing to repair the tire ...
We were able to announce two hours later, beaming in the hotel:
    Tire healing can safely continue!!

After the day was also, we once again slipped into a burger joint in the nearby shopping center and then lay down in the bed for quite a long Day 09 should be stage
