    Thank you.

My original question should have been clearer. Do I need to send my trans to Weistec for the valve body/tcu upgrade or can my stock valve body be removed and sent to them instead?

    Understood.

I'm trying to minimize downtime if I can, since the vehicle is my daily driver. Honestly, pulling the trans out and shipping it cross crounty is not an option for me. I have a local shop that works stricly on benzes and can do the work.

The Answer is No. Tuning is the major barrier in this situation. Nobody has been able to mess with the TCU of these cars. Weistec are the only ones. Your buddy seems to be tuning "the whole driveline for the 63 AMG", lets see if he can do something about itClick here to enlarge

Not following you. Who is "my buddy"?

    You mean MHP?

Is the MHP hatred necessary in Weistec's thread?

Definitely not but it is valid to point out how past transmission tuning claims were overblown. As well as statements that this could not be done.

Understood. Let him start another thread about it.

I'm just trying to get questions answered before I take the plunge. SLS AMG states it's a tuning issue and only Weistec can do the work, you state otherwise.

I'm back to square one. Can Weistec answer some of these questions?

It is NOT anything special to change the stator or impeller. Companies have been doing this for decades with other brands my friend.

Annual inflation since the 80's is about 2.93% and that $800 buying power spent now would buy you right around $2k so the extra $500 for an AMG trans upgrade is actually pretty cheap compared to the domestic part you had built way back when most of the people on this board were being born Click here to enlarge
In other words....the products being offered are pretty damn reasonable especially when you consider how much MHP charges for their "CDT" bull$#@!.

And I repped ya to even out the neg you got for what was a very appropriate comment given the topic here. Funny how Andy said nobody would ever get a blower to work and nobody would ever be able to tune the TCU like he does and Weistec continues to prove him wrong time and time again. Now look where his customers are going....LOL.

Do not disagree just pointing out the limited market and how the pricing fits it.

Bigger market than for my trans even at 10, let me put it that way.

It's ok. For the Valve Body and TCU it is a 3 day turnaround that does not require your entire transmission. It has to be your valve body and TCU though.

And removing both requires cracking the transmission as they are both buried in the body of the trans and epoxied into place IIRC.

With inflation $800 in 1980 is equal to about $2200 in today's money so Weistec is not that far off the mark

The control unit is simply bolted to the top of the valve body. Removing them both and sending them in is not a big deal. Remove the pan and remove the valve body. The issue for someone doing this themselves is filling the transmission when you are done. It is filled from the drain plug and set a s specific temperature.
As far as the tq converter is concerned it is not anything special. In fact it is pretty much the same as the 722.6 5 speed. Different bolt pattern for the flywheel. The only issue I would see with a standard stall from one of the many out there would be knowing exactly what to do to get the results you want and not loose drivability. Also if you are going to hit any torque limiters. You are not paying extra for the same labor and materials. You are paying for someone figuring out what works with the software.
The modifications for the transmission are not going to be anything extra ordinary either but I would assume that they are machining some parts for more clutch packs. So it is not so easy to send out kits to you and have someone install them. This requires a fair bit of expensive transmission parts to do and then you have to trust the guy putting them in. I would not do it and I am the guy that would put them in. If something goes wrong the blame game gets started. I would either build the transmission my self or have someone else do it.
They should just get a couple cores to build though for exchange. Another 12-1400 and you can have a new valve body if the Mercedes will even let you have one these days.

My main interest is the torque converter for now. Eventually I would like to add the rest of the trans upgrades if/when I'm ready for a blower.

    Thanks in advance.
Your buddy Andy at MHP tried a couple TCs on Keiths car a couple years ago and had no real success so your idea about wheeling your car down to your local Transmission shop wouldn't happen in a million years. If you want this upgrade Weistec is the only place you can find it.

Hey guys we have been very excited to finally release these parts. It has been a lot of rigorous R&D but the result has definitely paid off. In an attempt to make the process as fast as possible for any core exchanges, we have inventoried many transmissions to cut turn around times. There is however a few hurdles with this process, mostly due to the fact that Mercedes has many different variations on the transmission and valvebody. With that said, the valvebody has electronics that are mated to a specific chassis, therefore our modification requires removal of the valvebody (transmission stays in the car, and an experienced tech can handle this in less than an hour) and the customer shipping to as to complete our modifications. As Whipplem104 explained, it is also possible for a customer to purchase a completely new valvebody from a dealership which can then get modified by us, and will then need to be installed and programmed by a dealership.

Just to answer the question on hand, the valvebody can be removed from the transmission and the transmission will stay in the car. As for the transmission, we do require a core, but we have most if not all parts in stock but as I stated above, this is to cut down turn around times and get our customers up and running right away. Just for everyones information if it was not clear, our bullet proof transmission upgrade comes equipped with the valvebody modifications. Finally, the torque converter requires no core exchange. We have these in stock and ready to run. I hope this helps. It can be confusing to understand, so please feel free to call us or post up any questions you may have. Thank you guys!
