Just a lil' update on my RC truck

So about 3-4 months ago I asked all kinds of questions regarding a basic RC truck setup. I had a budget of about 150 bucks and wanted to re-use my old electronics.

    Well that $#@! never happened.

I went way over budget and created a monstrosity. This project was originally for my son, he cannot drive the truck yet because he's too young but he does work on it with me.

Basically, @JRCART and @Laloosh had some good advice for me regarding what to get. I did join an RC truck forum and did 3 months worth of research and this is the result.

The mod list is extensive, the truck can hit 70+ mph and pulls wheelies with the blip of the throttle, at any speed. I am running a 4S 40C Lipo battery (for the non-nerds, it is capable of powering my 2200 watt brushless electric motor all day long).

It is totally modified to my liking and I think I am content with where it is at. This has to be the most addicting hobby I have ever gotten into, but it is a lot of fun especially if you are a dad.

Some fun facts about the truck:
It has the power to weight ratio of a 2000 hp funny car.
Battery can discharge about 130 amps continuously.
The tires actually get substantially bigger in diameter when I start going passed 50 mph.

Sorry for the crappy quality video, no one was around to video tape. I will get better angles of it later. But for now, this thing is so stupid fast that I can't go full throttle on it, ever.

    mod list:
    Turnigy Trackstar 4068 - 2200 watt motor
    4S Sky lipo, 4400 mah 40C
    19/54 gear ratio
    Hobbyking 120A ESC with programmer
Soldered all connections with deans plugs
MIP X duty hardened steel rear driveshafts
    RPM front A arms
    RPM front shock tower
    Proline desperado wheels
    Proline streetfighter tires
Front shocks filled with 45wt oil
    Sway bars front and rear
Erevo HD slipper clutch with aluminum pads and bearing spacer
Jconcepts Ford Raptor body custom painted

    That thing is wickedly fast.
And very quiet at the same time.
2200W is a very silly powerplant in such a car. I like it a lot!
So you do offroading as well, or just stay on asfalt?

I always join forums for things I'm interested in. I got sucked into wine forums for a pretty long time.

It's a POS camera so I didnt care. The truck is so sensitive to throttle, just touch the trigger and it wants to go 50.

No offense but you need a nitro build! I love the gas powered RC races.

Good battery and motor choice though. Very quick!

How about some weights? Click here to enlarge it'll stay on the ground.

Question: What if it had an aerodynamically sound body with proper down-force, full throttle?

The chassis isnt really designed for those speeds so I am upgrading it little by little so I can push the limit without destroying it.

^ That boat is badass. I would really like to have one of those.

What happens if the battery dies though?

That's a good question. Even with the stock motor just adding power to the battery makes it go faster?is there a limit to this? how much money do you have to put into the batteries? Do you have to upgrade the motor after adding this much power from the batterie?

This is the only problem with the dictation on the new iPad. What I am basically asking is if the battery is the main component to power on these cars and or boats. After that limit is reached or if there is a limit does one need to upgrade the motor?

I've heard of low power backup systems to get the boat back to shore. Not sure if this has that.

In the old days, think 70's and 80's here guys, Nitro boats were all the rage. I had a prather deep vee with a 7.5 cc nitro motor. Would do about50-60MPH. Problem was/is fishing string. When it would die close to shore, go fishing with a treble hook. When it would die out far, take an electric boat, with about 10' of fishing string with a bobber on the end. Go out to the dead boat, make about 3 circles around her to catch the rudder, and pull her back to shore.

God those days were funClick here to enlarge

Sticky, go nitro. It's a bit trickier to get right, but it's so fun, at least to me.

I mean, you have a little 3.5cc motor spinning to 40,000RPM! It's just awesome to witness, hear and control!
