    2011 Mustang 5.0 6speed (bolt ons) vs. e92 M3 DCT (exhaust)

    and cameraman switch:

my buddy in the 5.0 claims he was granny shifting because earlier he grinded shifting too quickly, so he was waiting for it to be in gear before he made the foot change. in any case the m3 holds its own for only having an exhaust (total mod list on youtube description, but so you dont need to change websites: M3: exhaust. 5.0: exhaust, intake, tune).

curious to see comments, if this was expected or not.

Expected. the 5.0s are very strong, not to mention the fact that it is the newest generation ford and BMW has yet to put out their latest M3.

That was expected, and I don't blame him for granny shifting. Those transmissions in the new 5.0 are absolute garbage!

I thought the 5.0 would actully pull a bit harder than it did. If i'm not mistaken, I *think* with tune, intake, and exhaust, the 5.0 was gaining 40+ HP to the wheels...maybe a bit more in some cases based on the dynos I remember seeing.

Good runs and he is granny shifting you can hear it. Still a good indicator of power

The 6spd in those thing have had some issues, seems to be related to the clutch lines running near the exhaust heating up the line/fluid.
    We stay swingin...

after seeing @Laloosh yesterday, there is no reason to be granny shifting. I expected the 5.0 to pull that M3 pretty good

Nice video. The 5.0 tranny can be tricky. I have a feeling some of the reported issues were driver caused. These people are dumping the clutch at near redline on full blown slicks cutting 1.4 to 1.6 short times. Also the 2011s did have some sort clutch issue with pressure plate bolts and pedal assembly. Havnt really seen much issues from the 2012 model.

Well, it appears that the new 5.0 with a boss intake, tune and exhaust can pull a bus length on the 03-04 cobra with a smaller pulley and tune. From what I understand, a tune with a rev limit of 7800rpm really wakes these engines up. With the cost being so close to a used 335i, it's definitely an awesome car for the money. I would honestly consider one of these if my kids were missing legs, so they fit in the back seat. Pretty nasty cars as long as you tune it right and keep that number 8 cylinder happy.

Boss intake manifold and an upped rev limit and the car is truely out. People have been going 11's tune and intake only on a sticky tire left and right.

yup the boss intake mani's huge gain is above 7k. the stock mani's power band dies there, i've been telling him to get one. isn't an aftermarket company coming out with a intake mani that accepts a larger throttle body?

You sacrifice some tq down low with the boss manifold, but with the gains you make up top it's worth it imo.

    Hey guys,

That's my 5.0 in the vid!

There was no cameraman swap, we each had a passenger for all runs. I usually shift at ~6800, since power drops off a bit after that, but found myself still pulling all the way to 7500 and decided to hold the gears. Unfortunately, this makes some of the gear changes a little trickier, but I have since purchased a shifter bracket mount to facilitate those high-rev shifts.

M3 also has some strasse forged wheels that are under 20 lbs. each, while I recently gained some rotational mass in wider wheels. He also has a cat-less Eisenmann race exhaust, header-back I believe.

Regardless, awesome runs and I should hopefully have new runs with normal shifting soon now that I've added that mount..

    Here's a vid of another run, 60-130..

I call complete BS on the Strasse Forged 20's weighing less than 20lbs each.

I would need to see those on scale to believe that.

He told me the fronts are 18 lbs., and the rears right around 20. I'll try to find some pics of the car; it's gorgeous! It was a competition package to begin with, but he's added a lot of cf accents, the wheels, and the exhaust so it's sitting pretty nice.

I'll take some pics before we have our re-runs.. I expect the shifting to make at least a car of difference.

18lbs for 20's?! It is just really hard to believe that.

Strasse Forged is on M3post as a vendor. They had a set of 19's posted recently. The fronts where 22.6 lbs, rears 22.8 lbs.

Edit: I just noticed this was in Florida. Is this his car?

    Indeed it is!

I guess he was misinformed as far as what they weighed, though regardless they are a few lbs lighter than his OEM competition package wheels. Should've looked into it myself..

Nicest looking car i've ever pulled, though..

Nope, just that the cars are close enough that the weight is enough affect the outcome.

    M3 needs a tune.

For bolt on's on the Mustang not impressed at all. A rear section exhaust isn't even adding anything on the M3 unless he has a catless or race cat X-pipe.
