    TVR Sagaris engine, 4.0L I6.

Anyone know anything about this engine?

Who designed it or sources it to TVR or is it an in house design? I would like to see someone drop it in a BMW chassis.

TVR's have some real impressive specs but for whatever reason they never got big. I don't know if I trust their engines.

TVR modified an existing motor design if I am correct... There is an ongoing saga with them currently, the last owner is supposedly building them with GM LSX crate motors now but nobody knows for sure. I drove the Sagaris several years back that a dealer had imported to the US and it was a peaky motor. No low end tq at all, but revved nicely and ran well at higher rpm's.

It's a big I6, it probably revs high and makes tons of power. It is rated at 400 hp stock for the NA inline 6. Thats terrific performance. I just love the fact that its 4 liters, mind you that is the same size as the M3 V8 but in a mosnter I6. It sounds $#@!in' too.

From my research it seems TVR developed that motor themselves. It seems very S54esque imo

It's an awesome motor. It's designed by a British chap called Melling, a crazy guy who design super powerful motors such as a 1175HP NA V10 and used to work for Cosworth and Lola in F1.

The prototype engine is called AJP and was a masterpiece. However due the high build cost, the production model wasn't as awesome as the AJP. The production model suffers from bad lubrication and bad head components such as finger followers, and if you rev them so high, specially the 4.0L version, things will get ugly.

But bad things stop right there because the aftermarket parts for this engine is awesome. They will add a exhaust side oilway to solve the lubrication problem. The head will be overhauled with new parts. And also you have too many options for more power. Cams, stroker kit, high comp pistons etc... which can increase the power to 550hp! and for just $10,000!! That's a headers+exhaust cost for S65.

I'm currently trying to fit a 4.5L with estimated 490hp into a E20. It will be a killer setup hopefully.

    Cool.
Any pictures of progress in this build?

Too bad bmw hasn't tried to do something like this. They came close with the 3.8 s38 motor which at the time without vano's or any other special tech made 340bhp. Imagine what kind of power they could make today with a 4.0 inline 6. They made 340bhp from the CSL m3 in Europe which was a 3.2.

Thanks. Sorry no pics. The engine was in before, but the transmission didn't fit so everything including cooling lines are pulled out again. Nothing worthy to photograph.

Great now think about what they could have done with a 4.0 in a mid engine car like an M1. That would have been something awesome.
