    computer...

well spent today fixing my custom build from august hdd went faulty so had to use my backup and reinstall win 7

Computer Build: cost me around $650

AMD Phenom II X4 980 3.7GHz (Quad Core) 45nm, AM3 6MB Cache (final installment of the phenom quad series, bulldozer will be out before you know it, go for the 1100T for now)
AMD Black Edition Copper HeatPipe EXTRA QUIET fan (i have to get new one doesnt match am3 socket ment for am2, and is NOT quite)

ASRock M3A770DE, AMD 770, Cross Fire, GB LAN( decent board so far no complaints)

    Corsair Vengeance 8GB PC12800 DDR3 RAM - 1600MHz (excellent)

500GB Western Digital 7200RPM SATA2 UDMA 300 16m cache (added 320gb also just incase...which today i needed to replace the bad drive)

PNY GeForce GTX 460 XLR8 OverClocked 1GB GDDR5 (sli not crossfire but i had it brand new unused)

PowMax Black Mid Tower ATX Case w/ Front USB (basic case nothing special...i got cheap lol)

BFG GS Series GS-550 Power Supply (does well enough covers dual gpus, but would recommend somthing of better quality) plus i had it sittin there so figured i'd use it and take out the 480 that was already in the case.

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

todays windows score....so low damn hdd 5.9...ruined it lol

Where's the sound card? you can't game with lousy onboard...grab an x-fi fatal1ty

for the hdd's you can setup a raid 5 with mirror/stripe 3x1tb to give you 2tb with the safety of raid 1.

Phenom II X4 is a great processor.

I built a "budget" pc with a intel core2quad Q9505 a last summer (2009) for ~$600 and the only thing I want to upgrade now is my gpu.

GTX280 right now, wanting to up to the 570, 580 is too costly.

Not sure if you want to, but right now is about the best time to buy a hard drive (cost-wise)... You can get a nice OCZ or Intel SSD - throw your OS onto it - and get a solid 7.X+ for your score. I saw a 60GB for under 70 bucks - not too bad if you ask me. Now - reliability is said to be a question, but I have never had an issue... Just backup your stuff - if you keep to having your OS only on that drive, you should be good regardless.

agreed, that 500gb wd reliability sucked. im sure i was just unlucky...

from western digital's site on that hdd i got but it failed:

Built to the highest standards of quality and reliability, these drives offer features and capacity at an affordable price.

well decided to get another build together new parts:
    GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

    Cooler Master V6GT 220-Watt CPU Cooler RR-V6GT-22PK-R1

Seagate Barracuda XT 2000 GB 7200RPM 64MB Cache 3.5-Inch Bare Drive

Cooler Master Computer Case Cooling R4-LUS-07AR-GP (Red)

Cooler Master Storm Enforcer USB 3.0 Mid Tower ATX Case with Window and Black Interior

Ultra U12-40841 X4 Gold Edition Modular Power Supply - 1000W

    I'm gonna take the AMD Phenom II X4 980 3.7GHz, Corsair Vengeance 8GB PC12800 DDR3 RAM - 1600MHz,

PNY GeForce GTX 460 XLR8 OverClocked 1GB GDDR5, and place them into this build and remove them from the old, I will

though have the other setup but put another amd processor in it for cheap use, Reason for the change was access to

3.0 usb, sata3, better cooling case, much better cpu cooler, and also much more space to work with.

    ORIGINAL BUILD COST: $650.00
COST IN NEW BUILD PARTS: $581.57

Actually, the SSD's are getting cheaper, it's the spinning storage that is getting more expensive...

SSD pricing is like that. The price almost grows geometrically.

idk considering im getting the 120gb and its only costing me $115, but the 240gb would run me $435, and compared to other's they usually cost you at most $100 more...not $300 lol

SSD's pricing is like that you can't compare it to regular hard drives.
