    The burger thread

Ok since you all seem to think new york pizza is the best thing in the world i say california burgers rule. Disagree? Check out the pic below, im at this place called slater's 50/50 and the patty is 50% ground beef and 50% ground bacon. It is 100% amazing so says the new yorker sitting next to me.

Meatloaf on a bun. I know the one off the GCP by Astoria Queens, NY. Quite an experience although, I wouldn't consider that as 'the best burger'. It's closer to a novelty burger than the paragon of an excellent burger, if you know what I mean.

The 50/50 sounds pretty darn utopian..

But being an anti-spice-or-condiment type who eats her burgers with nothing on 'em but bacon (no cheese, no tomato, no nothing), imma meat connoisseur and am in a position to judge, and there's a place in Fort Lauderdale (and a second location in pompano) that has burgers so lean, so melt in your mouth with a taste that's unique to them. They even sell their meat to go for their fanatical clientele but when i cooked it at home on my Foreman and it was excellent it wasn't quite the same, so the magic's in their grille somehow. It's called Jack's Old Fashion Hamburger House and if you're ever in the area, get there by any means necessary. On US1 south of Commercial.

    From a writeup:
In a 2006 Sun Sentinel article, the hand-pressed burgers were hailed for their "good beefy flavors made from inside round and brisket." The fries and milkshakes also were praised as standouts.
And they have t-shirts with mustard and ketchup picketing the place saying, "Unfair! the meat is so good they don't need us!".

I discovered it 30 years ago while selling audio next door and have been going there whenever i'm in the area ever since. Damn i want one now!

FYI if you are ever fortunate enough to receive a "Free meal card" from Five Guys, Get everything on the menu. I have done it, meal of a life time.

Next time you go to 50/50 @Sticky get the PB&J burger. Incredible.

As I have said before in another thread, Santa Cruz CA, the place is called Burger. It has some great choices, like "The Fatty." That's my favorite place when I am in town.

Still nothing better than having a late night gym session and grabbing some Inn N' Out on the way home. Open later than five guys and is really fresh!

Yes, I was very lucky they had a pipe burst or something and had to close early. The four of us in the car were ecstatic once we went back the following time, "very hungry." The manager was really cool and let me get a triple bacon burger, regular fries & cajun fries. Needless to say I was very pleased. I also like the fact that you get free peanuts and can toss the shells on the floor, makes me feel like a kid again Click here to enlarge

There is a place in Camarillo that does this called Bandits. Fun to just toss peanut shells without a care inside. If you are ever in that area, worth trying out for the awesome BBQ.

My wife and I ate the 50% bacon, 50% ground beef burgers before, and during that meal I came up with an interesting conclusion. While eating that burger my wife and I discussed the Donner party, and I mentioned that these burgers were probably what human meat would taste like. I'm thinking that was the first burger that my wife and I never finished. I'm pretty sure she would never eat one again, but me, I'm not sure. That give me an idea. I might have to start an exotic meat thread. The best burger that I had was a simple angus burger with blue cheese and bacon. That's about it.

Why are you trying to ruin burgers for us Ryan?

Naa, but for some reason it seems logical to me that people would taste like bacon and beef all mixed up.
