The place I referenced earlier, Lamonica's in Westwood, is one of those places that ships the water out from NY for the dough. At least they say they do...It IS a damn good pie.

What is so special about the water? You can get the most ridiculous filtration systems these days and have water that exceeds set standards if necessary. I don't get it, I think it is just a mental issue not anything specific about the water.

Im with you . I havent drank NY tap water in over 7 years lol. I happened to read the MSDS and data sheets on the water Which anyone can do in any state thanks to the Freedom of information act . Once i read the data i never touched it again .

NEw York pizza blows away California pizza, however Chicago pizza is better than New York pizza so this thread is pretty meaningless

Yeah, it's kinda the meatloaf of pizza. It has tons of different heart-stopping meats on it, that's if it's made right.

    lol
Chicago pizza (especially deep dish) is awesome - and probably cannot be beat (never tried NY)... Five Guys - one of the best grease burgers a man can eat. Can't agree with you more on this one. :-)

water makes all the difference in the world when it comes to bread (in this case dough).

food on the east coast in general is better imo. its not fancy food..its comfort food. they've been doing recipes a certain way forever.

i miss huge soft salted philly pretzels. you can't get a real pretzel in ca (or atleast i haven't seen a good spot). and i miss real breakfast bread like kaiser rolls but imo you can't even get real bread in the states.

    lol
I take Chicago style over NY style 9 times outta 10, I don't get to NY too often to sample the real deal stuff, but I did find a place in South Beach/Miami that sells true NY style pie, appearently the guy moved there from NY but was so disappointed with the pie down there he perfected his own NY style recipe, and it's great.

As for the In and Out Burger/Five Guys....In and out is the best burger I have ever tasted, we have Five Guys here in Chicago now, they are good but not on par with In and out IMO. I will give the nod to Five Guys on their fries over In and Out, In and Outs fries are lacking compared to their burgers, hell McDonalds fries are better than In and Out IMO.

    Bagels...NY hands down

Then there's alwasy the Chicago Style Italian Beef vs Philly Cheese Steak controversy LOL.....mmmm, this thread is making me hungry

New York pizza and bagel makers have long credited local water as a special baking ingredient. It goes down soft, without hints of tart-tasting minerals or chlorine like other public water systems."
