This is what my paintjob looked like after a track day

I was invited to Chuckwalla Valley Raceway (an hour East of Palm Springs, so out in the desert) a few weeks ago and was so excited about driving my car on the track that I didn't even think about protecting my paint. I'll never make the mistake of going on track without a clear bra again, this is the damage done after just 7 laps. The car had been washed seconds before I took the picture, it is 100% clean so every spot you see is a tiny rock chip.

I was able to hand polish it until it looks almost as good as new, I'll get some pictures after I throw some more elbow grease at it.

That's just plain harsh. You've single handedly convinced me that the blue tape is a requirement

Well, that really depends on the track itself. on a track in the middle of desert it's a must.
I go to track twice a month, nothing like that happened to the cars except once when i went out of track.

What's so special about tracks in the desert? Are there many rocks?
I drove around a track in the dunes for 1,5 hours with zero damage, and it's all sand there...

To be honest I wasn't even paying attention to conditions that may have been detrimental to my paintjob, I was too busy chasing down a 997 Turbo (with an inadequate driver) getting passed by a Gallardo with some AWESOME exhaust etc. almost all the cars that were there were supercars so it was quite a day.

I'm guessing most of the damage is from following other cars with sticky tires too closely, we had to wait for point-bys and it was the first time on a track for a lot of the people there so they didn't always point you by right away.

The polish I used (borrowed from a friend so idk what it is) got me about 90% back to looking normal but I'm waiting for some Blackfire products to come in the mail, I'll put up pics when it's finished.

Wow, this is why we need to mask the car up with the painter's tape!

That is pretty scary. I have only done one track day here in PA, but did not have any issues with paint damage. Tires were another story!
