New 9 speed transmission from ZF

When is this insanity going to stop? ZF claims this new transmission called the 9HP will offer up to a 16% gain in fuel economy. The downside? It can only handle 206 to 354 pound-feet of torque making it basically useless for performance enthusiasts.

hey, all takes is an aftermarket to rebuild it. sucks they cant handle anything from the factory, but if its good, its good. we modify everything else for more power, transmission, even being a mysticl black art, is no different

The problem is because there are so many gears the box will always be weaker than a comparable 5 or 6 speed. Space becomes a constraint and you can't fit as strong of parts in there. I'm sure it can be beefed up, but the old 5 speeds Mercedes used could take almost 1000 pound-feet.

Some people live long, meaningful lives.

Other people eat shit and die.

I'm not racist, I hate everybody equally; especially fat people.
