What do you like about it? Why use it instead of a laptop?

It's basically a computer without worrying about the computer aspect, everything is there to use and work perfectly out of the box, which makes it a great device to carry around and use on the go. It's based off the iPhone/IPod Touch OS but the 10 inch display gives it an entire new experience. I will still keep my laptop and use it in certain situations, but the iPad will be replacing the laptop in lots of on-the-go situations. I'll have all my books on the iPad, documents, etc and can quickly view, download files, email, and type of documents if I need to. The new iPad apps that are being released are taking full advantage of it as well. Lots of people are bashing the iPad, but I would recommend trying it out in the store and then see what your opinion is.

My dad got one. I played around with it and it is pretty awesome. I was definitely a doubter, but the huge screen and interface is really great.

    Phiber,

Now that you've had some time to mess around with it, tell us about it... what do you like about it? how's the keyboard ? is it fast?

    etc etc..

Doesn't feel like a big iPhone/iPod Touch as many people are calling it. The size difference is significant enough that it gives you an entire new experience. Flipping through pages and articles is seamless and feels natural. Going back onto my iPhone, most movements don't flow as easily and the tiny screen hinder the ability that you can do on the iPad. The new iPad apps that are available take advantage of the two column windows which is very nice. The unibody case is very sleek and holds great, I also purchased the default case, works well and easy to use with the iPad inside. Battery is great so far, OS running very solid. Screen shows fingerprints a bit more than I would have liked, but nothing you can't live with. Running iPhone apps on the iPad look pretty bad, most are pixelated and text is very aliased, the iPad apps sure do show what the device is capable of.

The keyboard is great: in portrait mode I can type almost as fast as I can on the iPhone, in landscape mode I type with all 10 fingers as I would on a regular keyboard and can type much faster than on the iPhone. Still getting the hang of it, but it comes naturally after using the iPhone.

I recommend everyone to go try it out and look at some of the iPad apps that are being released. Good stuff coming to this device. I'll be keeping it.

Awesome. I can't wait for the 3g version to come out so I can pick one up.

When you go to the appstore directly from the ipad, does it show you which apps are ipad specific ?

I also heard that the speaker on the ipad is very loud (great for watching movies), is this true?

I was wondering why there was such a long line at Apple. No wonder...

HP Slate doesn't do much for me. I saw the previews and have read about and I agree it looks pretty cool, but I predict it to be buggy and have the success of most other Windows tablets out there.

Psi, when you go to the App Store it takes you to essentially only iPad Top apps, categories, top grossing, etc. When you do search for apps, both will show up in two separate results: iPad and iPhone. Lots of the existing apps are updating their apps to include both versions, and those you can tell by having a + sign in the little rectangle that says: 'Free" ' Price X'.

The speakers are much better than than the iPhone. I was expecting more from them since I heard the speakers were incredible quality and the loudness was increased. They aren't much louder, but definitely an improvement. You can't expect much in the sound aspect from a type of device like this anyways.

Picked up a 32gb 3G iPad at my local best buy on launch day. This thing is great. I can type almost as fast as I can type on my laptop. This thing is by FAR not an overgrown iPhone.

Ok, here is one, I repeat, one reason I would be tempted to get the Ipad:

    Haha that's pretty awesome.

I'm Relying on my ipad to do all this web work....without a home computer to get onto I use this and hack my neighbors wifi and sit here all evening.

I have a 64gb 3G version, around here that was all that was left or in stock....most stores are all sold out of the cheaper ones Indefinitely....apple store has em but I got mine thru best buy with the credit card....no interest for 12 months! It's done paid off already but I figure use that and build some credit....

The 3G version is great on the go...I can get access anywhere.

The downsides? No flash, no java...cuse Steve believes 'it's outdated and no one uses it anymore.'. Bull$#@!.....everyone out there still uses it. Dan cracked his on here and actually installed a droid operating system and got some flash programs to work, but it's still hit or miss.

The new thing out is that Samsung Galaxy iPad thingy...the screen is smaller at 7" but it does flash 10.1 and java...and its on an android OS so a lot of customizing can be done to it.

No flash and no java? That kills it for me.

My phone has 9.4 flash and can run java. If you do need 10.1 flash it can also run froyo. though its not as big as the pad. Yes it even makes phone calls.
