    335i Cobb 93 Octane Map vs 335i JB4 Map 1 .. and a little map 2.

I felt this needed it's own thread - since it was totally different runs, but feel free to merge.
To remind, on the last runs, Cobb 91 vs JB4 Map 1 was more or less identical.

Sorry no video again .. I'm going to order a mount!

So E90Vader is now running the same 94 octane fuel in his car as me, and he decided to bump is Cobb map to the 93 octane map, and then re-run my JB4 Map 1 car.

And we did, again at various speeds. He totally annihilated me, it was not even funny. His car instantly pulled on mine, and kept pulling. There was no comparison, whatsoever -- the JB4 car was destroyed.

    Moving on..

I know JB4 Map 2 is not recommended without supporting mods, but I decided to give it a quick go for $#@!s and giggles. I logged everything .. and will probably sent to Terry if he has time to look -- I didn't see anything drastically wrong with the logs, but I'm a novice here.

So after I did a few pulls to adapt, we run again -- JB4 Map 2 vs Cobb 93.

This time, after the third honk, I instantly pulled about 1/2 a car -- but then he reeled me in, and easily destroyed me up top. Every time this occurred, no matter what speed we rolled from.

I did have some bogging issues initially, but that sorted itself out. He still killed me fairly easily up top.

So there you have it .. tune-only, the Cobb certainly seems quite a way ahead of the JB4; at least at our altitude.

    JPG or CSV?

I'm quite disappointed to be honest.. he's auto, so it could be my shifting technique .. but he was pulling on me even in the middle of the long third, before I shifted. Other than the times it bogged, my car didn't appear to lose any ground during the shift.

I have a couple of JPGs here .. I'm having trouble opening up my other CSV file, something about being invalid:

Not sure if this is from the point where we actually raced .. I'm still new to reading these logs.

I'm also reading one of E90Vader's logs from earlier .. holy f&ck .. that thing is peaking at 16.9 PSI. How can it boost so much more, than JB4 map 2, without mods.. ? No wonder Map 1 stood no chance.

the difference in boost is your reason. now, i dont know whats good and bad at altitude, but if i were you i wouldnt run that again without better octane. id also like to see the cobb logs to see what his looked like

So I shouldn't run map 2? I kind of knew that would be the case. But JB4 Map 1 was so slow compared to the 93 Cobb map. If is car is running safe .. what could be done to make the JB4 perform the similarly to his car? To me, tune-only, the Cobb does seem much better; at least up here.

I have E90Vader's logs, but only in CSV format .. I'm trying to help him graph them, but there is so much data there...

... excuse my n00bish'ness about all this. I know Map 2 was probably a silly idea for me .. but meh, only live once.

his timing looks better than yours, but still knocked a bit. but he also ran 2 psi more just about everywhere with about 3 psi more in 4th gr it looks like, which is why he pulled on you.

Hmm .. it's mildly upsetting that the Cobb can run more boost, with less knock. Same fuel too.

I'm going to revert to Map 1 and evaluate my options .. Map 2 does feel miles better, but if it's going to hurt the engine, I'll back off.

    Cheers LM!

Just to add .. going from Map 1 > Map 2 felt like it transformed my car more than when I went from stock > Map 1.

dont make any rash decisions. your timing was over all lower, but he had a good knock event as well, along with low timing and just as jumpy. Gotta take it in context, he had to run 3 psi more to pull on you.

Do you think DP would allow me to run map 2 safer, or is this mostly an octane thing? I could go the meth route, but not 100% comfortable with that yet .. it'd be great to have a car that performs well enough for me on 94 pump gas alone.

methanol will take car of it. trust me, its the easiest way to add power. i was dead set against it until i tried it, now i cant live w/o it.. it just makes no sense not to run it. 100ctane at all times is definatly a plus

I'm with LM, I've seen many problems which got solved with meth and to be fair in some cases the problem were caused by meth but those were really rare cases.

I'm going to do some more meth research .. what is the best kit .. would I be capable of installing it .. etc.

I got a taste of how map 2 felt over map 1, and now I want that power all the time. But I will only do it safely.

id say go with coolingmist or devils own. i started with CM, but swapped a few parts to DO, but in actuality, i didnt gain anything by going DO, i just use their DO14 nozzle, but you dont need one that large. so id say CM with CM10 nozzle
