335i Cobb AT vs 335i JB4 MT (and a bonus late model Stg 2 STI)

So met up with a fantastic guy from the 'other' forum tonight - E90Vader (he should be joining us here soon) - and we did a few runs.

The Cobb was on the 91 octane map, and my JB4 was on Map 1. I believe the Cobb car has AFE intake, and mine has BMS drop-in. End of mods.

We did a couple of pulls from various speeds, and we concluded that they are pretty much identical. I got the jump once or twice, and he did the same back, but we could not pull on each other.

After we did a few runs, a new model modded STI wanted to get in on the action (did a flyby) .. so I pulled along side and asked if he wanted to run, yup! So three-honks, and we were off -- my car pulled like a train! Seriously was no competition. Did two runs, same result.

Must have been a few cars before I shut down (sorry can't be more precise).

I dropped back, and E90Vader then had a go with the same results - STI got killed by about 2 cars.. he asked the STI guy what he was running, and apparently it's a Stage 2 .. whatever that means.

Lots of fun at about 3,600ft altitude.

So to conclude, my JB4 isn't quite as slow as I thought it was! Also met up with another great guy from the 'other' forum who owns an E39 M5, but he was hungry and had to go home before the action.

12 hmmm. With the way people have been seeing timing drops I think it might be higher.
I thought I read somewhere that the Cobb boost was equivalent to map 2 on JB4

I think the Cobb might boost a bit higher .. it's 15-16 psi on the 93 octane map. He's going to try that one next .. so I'll need some help keeping up!

COBB AP 91 octane runs about 13.5 PSI
If I run the 93 octane map it runs about 16PSI Mid rpm range, then drops down to 13 PSI at redline.

It will add 20WHP and 30 Wheel pounds of torque if I run 93 octane. I first have to find a place in Calgary that sells it! Then I will switch octane and see.
I'll do another comparison with Bigup when he switches to stage 2 map and see what happens!

    And tonight was very fun!

    ****** Pointers to add ******
    I have a steptronic sedan 2007.
Bigup is a 6 speed manual coupe

Not sure if that should make any difference when we were comparing the tunes.

I think the only conclusion that I can come to is that the 335i is deceptively fast .. it actually feels like you are going half the speed you really are.

I had a ride as passenger in E90Vader's car, and it felt unbelievably fast. Goes to show the difference between being the driver and being a passenger.. ! A real eye-opener.

I find however since my car was dropped 3" it feels like your going 30K faster everywhere! I got in your car Bigup and it made everything seem much slower.

Your car is low! Looks great, and makes mine feel like a SUV. ..

thqats what i have been saying the entire time. It doesnt feel like "raw" power when you drive it. But when u see you past 100 and all you were doing is trying to pass the 'yota in the left lane, its abit confusing..

I could be wrong about boost, but i was reading on clap/laloosh results w/stg 1 and fbo and only trapping 112, so i equated that to less boost.

Funny bit of ifftopic info here, but i KNOW cobb has been trying to source tuning help from unusual places Click here to enlarge

Nice friendly comparison runs guys. I with you bigup, when I drive my car it feels slow when I go WOT or trying to pass a car, when I look over to my wife, she's freaking out and then I notice I'm already 110+ mph, really weird. I'm used to mustangs that throw you through the seat and into the back. But I guess that just because the car is so well planted into the ground with nearly perfect balance.

Upgraded to 93 octane map tonight V2.02 COBB, it is significantly quicker! I could not believe how much harder it pulls up top!!

Probably do a few more runs this weekend .. video quality will suck though since I have no mount in my car. Might be able to rig something.

    Do it... please.

I'm sure either one of you can come up with something. We would all like to see it!
