. Keep in mind this is very early in the flash tuning process of the new M3 and M4 but there are multiple tuners with the ability to flash the ECU out there with many more to come. Jailbreak Tuning posted the first Dynojet results of their flash tune and the result on 91 octane pump fuel is an increase of 20 peak horsepower at the wheels.
Obviously peak horsepower does not tell the whole story especially on the newer BMW turbo motors as the gains in the mid-range are in the 50 wheel horsepower range. The torque curve is much fatter and the peak torque figure increases by 42 lb-ft at the wheels.
People will obviously being comparing these flash figures to the BMS piggyback tune figures
. As of today, piggyback tuning shows greater horsepower and torque gains. It will be interesting to see how these two approaches play out and the way they play out will likely be reminiscent of the N54 tuning scene in which each approach has its place with many people using both for the optimum setup.
Regardless, the flash tuning era of the S55 inline-6 motor is officially underway.
