It is official, Quaife has a limited slip differential upgrade available for the C207 Mercedes-Benz E550 models. With the torque the M278 twin turbo V8 generates a limited slip differential becomes necessary to maintain traction and definitely will improve putting the power down in corners especially as well as the straightline or low traction conditions (rain, snow). Very strong showing from the SLS GT3 at the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring. You likely already know what a grueling course the ring is and a 24 Hour endurance race on the famous circuit is no joke. The winning Black Falcon SLS GT3 started in sixth and worked its way up to first finishing two minutes and thirty nine seconds ahead of the second place car. The new batch of turbo motors from AMG make a lot of torque and those turbos combined with fairly large displacement produce quite a bit of heat. The factory cooling system features a water-air intercooler for this reason to keep temps down but the OEM Mercedes-Benz design has the intercooler system tied into engine coolant system. Here is a graph from Eurocharged showing three different dyno runs from a 2005 Mercedes-Benz R230 SL65 AMG. The runs show stock, then flashed with the Eurocharged Stage 1 software, and then flashed with the more aggressive Eurocharged Stage 2 software. The baseline for the SL65 shows 374 wheel horsepower meaning this is a very, very conservative reading Mustang dyno. On a Dynojet the car shows about 520 rear wheel horsepower stock so this is a heartbreaker dyno. ...Published on 05-16-2013 09:32 AM
After what seemed like years upon years of teasers and spyphotos Mercedes-Benz finally officially revealed the new W222 generation S-Class sedan. Was the car worth the wait? Definitely, an absolutely beautiful modern design that remains elegant and is not overdone. Inside, outside, the styling is just about perfect and is modern while at the same time reminding us it is a Mercedes-Benz. Tuners are pushing a lot of power out of the twin turbo M157 AMG V8. When launching AMG cars equipped with this motor on the strip all that torque has to go somewhere and it can overwhelm the stock driveline namely the OEM axles when some sticky rubber is used. Weistec fortunately has W212 E63 AMG and C218 CLS63 AMG owners covered with their upgraded axles which are capable of handling over 1000+ horsepower and repeated drag strip launches. ...Piecha Design modifies the C117 CLA-Class with new body kit, wheels, and lowers it for a sexy result

The CLA-Class is going to be a very hot modification platform considering its positioning in the lineup will endear it to a younger clientele. If the Piecha Design take is anything to go by we are going to see some very hot CLA's. It really did not take much to give the car a much more aggressive look and this is based on the standard CLA 250. They gave the car a new front bumper, lip spoiler, rear spoilers, rear diffuser, and quad-pipe exhaust to fill it out for a meaner look. ...Published on 05-13-2013 08:20 PM
Another Mercedes Pole Position and another Mercedes letdown. That's the story of the season so far in 2013 for the Mercedes Formula 1 Effort. For the third straight race Mercedes held the pole position. At the Spanish Grand Prix this was even sweeter as Mercedes qualified 1-2 meaning this is as good as it gets folks. Here we are, forged pistons now available to satisfy those with the W211 E55 AMG looking for big power or for anyone with a supercharged 55 AMG who has concerns about reliability when pushing big power with their 55 AMG M113K kompressor motor. I just want to relate my experiences with a recent RENNtech ECU tune for my 2012 CLS550 4Matic. I've been researching and considering a tune for a year now, but medical concerns have been a much higher priority. My goals may be different than others... I don't race at all, but simply wanted a reliable and efficient street tune. I wasn't worried if I didn't have the most horsepower... I crave usable street torque. Here it officially is, the Renntech M157 turbo upgrade package which will retail for $11,850. Several dynos has been posted showcasing the strength of this package including a 691 wheel horsepower run on 93 octane pump gas which they when were able to raise to 725 wheel horsepower being the first and only tuner to crack the 7XX horsepower barrier on pump gas. The 2013 season has been a letdown thus far for the Mercedes AMG team. Everyone expected stronger competition especially after the signing of Lewis Hamilton and Daimler assuming full control of the F1 team. Things looked pretty good with Mercedes AMG sitting on the pole for the last two races but unable to turn their strong starting position into some big points to move up in the standings. Nice set of runs here showing a W204 C63 AMG Black Series with a Renntech tune and Renntech headers going up against a Ferrari F430, Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, BMW E63 M6, BMW F10 M5, and a W204 C63 AMG sedan. The C63 Black Series does incredibly well considering that there is not too much power to squeeze out of the aggressively tuned black series as Renntech showed with 15-19 wheel horsepower gains tunes only. $214,105 is a lot of coin to drop on a CL-Class even it is an AMG. In this case, especially if it is an AMG considering a slightly used CL600 featuring a very similar M275 Twin Turbo V12 motor with the same W216 body style can be had for over $100,000 less. Is the CL65 AMG really worth over $200,000? No, and the depreciation in the model will reflect that just as it did with the previous generation but that has never stopped Mercedes-Benz or people from buying it. ...Published on 05-02-2013 10:40 PM
Here is another leak regarding the upcoming W222 generation 2014 S-Class sedan. This appears to be a legitimate shot of the front of the car which was leaked internally. Mercedes-Benz was quite upset when the model presentation documents regarding the W222 were leaked earlier this year so they likely will not be too pleased about this picture somehow making its way out. MHP. Modern Horsepower. Andrew Cluck. These names are all known on the Mercedes-Benz forums but for the wrong reasons. For years, MHP has used forums to try to push their products stating they are the best and using drag racing records as the reasoning for this "supposed" superiority. Say hello to the Black Edition Mercedes-Benz C207 E-Class Coupe by Prior Design. This is yet another successful AMG Black Series style body kit by Prior Design. The kit really makes sense for the E-Class considering no Black Series or AMG styling is available for the car since there is no E-Class coupe AMG variant let alone a Black Series variant. Great race video here showing the different between the new G63 AMG with the M157 Twin Turbo 5.5 liter V8 versus the previous generation G55 AMG with the supercharged 5.4 liter M113K V8. A recent Car and Driver test showed numbers for the new 2013 G63 AMG that were not all that much faster than what was achieved with the G55. The Bahrain Grand Prix has come and gone and it ended with a victory for Red Bull Racing and Sebastian Vettel. Red Bull Racing remains in first place in the team standings now with 109 points and Vettel is in first place in the driver standings with 77 points. Mercedes continues to prove they can challenge in the 2013 Formula 1 season although the team currently sits in fourth place with 52 points. They trail first place Red Bull Racing (78 points), second place Ferrari (73 points), and third place Lotus-Renault (60 points) going into Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg capturing the Pole makes for the second straight start for Mercedes-Benz from the first spot on the grid as Lewis Hamilton captured the pole position last week. ...
