The driver actually does a pretty good job getting the G-wagon to slide. We are impressed he didn't flip the thing over with how high the center of gravity is on the car. Note: Don't go and try to drift your SUV now. ...Published on 01-23-2011 06:11 AM

Many of us were attracted to German performance by BMW. There was a time when they made cars unlike anyone else. Cars that took no short cuts, with motors that represented the best their engineers had to offer. Now what do we have? Anti-tuning ecu's, the same motor in every car, M SUV's, FWD city cars coming, smaller and smaller motors paired with extreme brand dilution. ...Published on 01-18-2011 06:41 PM
Hey Mercedes, what happened to all your manly performance decisions as of late? Autocar is reporting that Herbert Kohler, head of Daimler advanced engineering and future mobility, states that future AMG models will incorporate hybrid technology. "In the future AMG will still offer high performance models but there will be hybrids there,” he said. “AMG needs to reduce fuel consumption." We understand the Porsche 918 and the E-cell has them thinking this can work with performance models but all this means to us is the cars will be A LOT heavier necessitating even more powerful motors to equal performance on lighter platforms. ...Published on 01-18-2011 01:11 AM
How come Canada is getting the cool stuff? Mercedes has announced that Canada will get the limited C63 AMG Affalterbach edition. What is the difference from the regular C63? Well, for starters, it gets the P31 package as standard. So that means a horsepower bump up to 481, forged pistons and rods, different crank, etc, that is included with the package. The interior gets treated as well with Nappa leather wrapped steering wheel, contrasting stitching, carbon fiber accents, and special edition logos. All this for $81,500 Canadian which used to be about 3 American dollars. Only 30 being made, so hurry! ...Published on 01-15-2011 04:00 PM
Last month we reported that the SLS GT3 would get its final shakedown before the race season at the Dubai 24 hours. Well, the race has taken place and the SLS GT3 did very well finishing in third place overall with the third fastest overall lap time. The three SLS GT3 cars finished in 3rd, 7th, and 24th places. The two cars to finish ahead of the SLS GT3 were the winning BMW Z4 and the Ferrari F430 GT2. A very strong showing and the SLS GT3 will be a force in professional racing. ...Published on 01-14-2011 10:41 PM
Autoweek recently tested the new CLS 63 AMG. We have been waiting to see numbers out of this motor and now we have something to go on: firstname.lastname@example.org. Now, it is important to note this was achieved with their test equipment. This most likely means something like a VBOX which inflates trap speeds. However, the test was done at 4000 feet elevation which will have an effect even on turbo motors. This was also the standard version without the performance package which ups power to around 550 horsepower. What this means is these cars will run 11's out of the box and the performance package will likely be trapping over 125 mph. With a tune... well, things are going to get very interesting indeed. ...Published on 01-14-2011 05:05 PM

Well, here is another M156 / 63 AMG supercharger setup. This one comes from Xtra Power (creative name, eh?) who we have never heard of. There are no boost numbers or pricing details given. The only details provided are that this puts out 660 horsepower with 595 pound-feet of torque and is available for all 63 AMG models. They also state that more horsepower is available with aftermarket cams and headers although no details on their cams or headers are provided. Is this legit? We do not know, but the forced induction scene for the M156 sure is heating up. ...Published on 01-13-2011 02:15 PM
Autoweek is reporting the SLK55 will not get a twin turbo V8 as rumored but instead Mercedes will reveal a tweaked 5.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 putting out over 400 horsepower. It is rumored this motor will find its way into the C63 AMG coupe which does not make much sense to us. We can can understand holding the SLK back from being a fire-breathing monster annihilating everything in the Mercedes lineup (come on Benz, do it) but holding the C AMG coupe back does not make sense to us. Why should the sedan an coupe have different motors? ...Published on 01-13-2011 01:25 PM
The new SLK is officially on sale. Mercedes is taking order this month for the hot new roadster. SLK200 and SLK250 versions will fill out the rest of the range.

This project caught our eye. The C-class and the SLK both got the M112 Supercharged 3.2 liter V6. The CLK did not get this motor as it received a V8. Dynomite05 purchased a used SLK32 motor with 31k on it for around $3k and decided to push ahead with the swap. The motor will be modified with a eurocharged heat exhanger, johnson CM30 IC pump, aftermarket intake, and an aftermarket supercharger pulley. We will keep you updated on the progress, here are the pictures so far: ...Published on 01-12-2011 01:45 PM
OE Tuning recently tuned a GL550 in Northern California at 034 Motorsport. The GL550 is all wheel drive so keep in mind these gains are at all 4 wheels. Also, this tuning was done on 91 octane pump gas. Peak gains of 18 wheel horsepower and 20 wheel torque were seen. The dyno used is a dynomite. ...
