The 2011 Formula 1 season did not exactly go as planned for Mercedes. No point dwelling on the past as it is time to focus on the 2012 season and how Mercedes will fare with their new car. The main changes in the W03 are different maximum bodywork heights which create the "interesting" new nose style and exhaust placement changes. The new car has 4500 parts compared to 4300 of the old car. How will Mercedes fare this season and will Nico finally clearly surpass the aging Schumacher or will Michael prove his talent is timeless? We can not wait to find out. ...Published on 02-21-2012 05:22 PM
Here it is, the new Mercedes SL63 AMG. The finished product looks almost identical to the renderings BenzBoost provided. So, any surprises? Nope, not really, the car features the M157 twin turbo 5.5 liter V8 in a state of tune of 529 horsepower. With more power and torque than the previous SL63 combined with 242 pounds less weight, this should be an easy 11 second and 120+ mph car in stock form especially if equipped with the performance package. Job well done Mercedes, more power, better efficiency, and less weight.

Everyone should know how great the M156 naturally aspirated V8 E63 AMG sounds. A great growl with a slight exotic touch that only gets more and more glorious as it approaches its 7200 rpm redline. The switch to turbo motors in BMW's has removed much of the aural pleasure associated with the powerplants. We are happy to say the E63 AMG switching to turbos has not diminished its sound quality and the M157 sounds amazing. Check the videos below for proof and to compare to the M156. ...Published on 02-18-2012 10:05 PM
AMG acquiring Ducati is an interesting proposition. There have already been a couple partnerships between AMG and Ducati namely the R172 SLK55 AMG Ducati Edition as well as the Duacti Diavel AMG. The natural choice for Ducati is AMG due to past partnerships and also considering that Mercedes has no motorcycle division. Acquiring one to compete with BMW would work much in the same fashion as when Mercedes acquired AMG to compete with BMW's M division. ...Published on 02-17-2012 12:04 AM
First of all, only one car is the true winner here. That vehicle is the C63 Black Series. Why? Because it is the only one out of the two that can be purchased in the United States. The M3 GTS might as well be a unicorn. It is also worth mentioning that Clarkson owns a Black Series. He ends up picking the Black Series here but his reasoning is sound. The M3 is a scalpel, an already fine machine further sharpened. He likens the C63 Black Series to more of a large caliber machine gun to the M3 sniper rifle and that it is a far greater improvement over the standard C63 AMG which he does not find as noteworthy as the standard M3. Sound reasoning in our view. ...Published on 02-14-2012 09:00 AM
Most of you should know that the Mercedes 1.8 liter M271 DE18ML engine lost its supercharger in favor of a turbo creating the 1.8 liter M271 DE18LA turbocharged and direct injected four cylinder. AMG is enlisting help of its internal HPE (High Performance Engine) division to raise the output beyond what the BMW 1M and Audi RS3 offer. This means they are shooting for over 340 horsepower which will require a substantial reworking of the 201 horsepower 1.8 liter engine. ...Published on 02-14-2012 02:33 AM
Mercedes seems intent to produce their Shooting Break (not a typo, Mercedes used Break in the concept's name) C218 CLS. We doubt this vehicle will make it to the USA which historically has not taken a liking to these style of vehicles. This winter testing should be the last round of testing before production and we can expect the vehicle in the European market by the end of the year. Expect a CLS550 version as well as an AMG version to make for the ultimate grocery getter. ...Published on 02-11-2012 10:37 PM
We showed you Part I of the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 production a couple weeks ago. Mercedes has now released Parts II and III. We are glad Mercedes is detailing the build process so enthusiasts can see what goes into these race cars. Part II is a timelapse piece. Part III shows the seat customization. Where and how you sit is an incredibly important part of the build as each car can and is tailored to the driver. Remember, with the cage in place there is not exactly a ton of room to work with. ...Published on 02-11-2012 01:01 AM
We find this report from CAR a bit tough to believe. The Maybach sedans were based on the old W220 S-Class platform. It is not as if Daimler created a new design from the ground up. It was basically an expensive S-Class even sharing the drivetrain with the same old M275 twin turbo V12 and transmission already found in other 600 Mercedes models. Where Maybach likely lost money was not due to engineering costs, as it was a parts bin sedan, but on the marketing and dealer network support. ...Published on 02-09-2012 06:02 PM
We have been keeping high hopes that the design of the new A-Class would stay close to the concept. We are happy to report it has. It does not have the aggressive lines of the concept or the aggressive headlights but the general design and proportions remain in check. Expect an official reveal next month in Geneva. This is going to be a great entry level vehicle for Mercedes and we can not wait for the A25 AMG version. Oh, and we should be getting it in the USA. ...Published on 02-09-2012 02:28 AM
The Mercedes B-Class is not exactly the meanest or manliest vehicles in the lineup. However, Brabus has released their modification package for the new W246 B-Class which makes it look much more aggressive. They start with a body kit which includes side skirts as well as modified front and rear diffusers. Quad exhaust tips give the rear a far meaner look. This is all complimented by a drop on 19 inch Brabus rims. Overall, the car looks much better with these modifications. ...Published on 02-07-2012 08:14 AM
UK tuner MRC Tuning is tackling a variety of platforms these days. Known mostly for their VW Group work (Audi, Porsche, VW, Skoda, Lamborghini, etc.) they are branching out into the Mercedes market as well. Their ECU tuner offers a gain of 67 horsepower over stock. The dyno provided is from a Cartec dynamometer which was set to read the crank values. We would have preferred to see the numbers at the wheels and at the crank including the losses as with their R8 V10 dynograph but at least they provided a graph unlike most European tuners. ...Published on 02-06-2012 06:45 PM
The new M157 twin turbo V8 powered SL63 AMG was spotting doing its final testing before its official reveal expected in Geneva. The rear exhaust setup closely follows the renderings BenzBoost did last month. Mirroring the other M157 twin turbo cars expect standard figures of around 518 horsepower and a performance package option with 550 horsepower. With less weight and more power than the previous SL63 AMG the new model should not give up much if anything to even the previous range topping SL65 AMG. ...Published on 02-05-2012 02:24 PM
The M157 twin turbo powered ML63 AMG will not come cheap, starting at $96,865. This pricing is higher than the comparable X5 M which starts at $88,850 for the 2013 model. Both performance SUV's undercut the Cayenne Turbo by decent margin which starts at $107,100 but quickly goes up with options. The reality is with options out the door these are all $100k+ plus sport utility vehicles.

Mercerdes does not sell the Actros in the United States and that is too bad, as it is seems to be a very capable truck. Europeans agree as the Actros won the European Truck of the Year Competition for the fourth time in 2012. It is versatile as well doing everything from towing, to racing, to now serving as a taxi. Check out the video from Mercedes below to see some surprised individuals when the Actros pulls up. ...
