It would seem that BMW and Mercedes continue to match one another move for move. Mercedes did the CLS so BMW will likely be coming with the 6 gran turismo. BMW does the X3 so Mercedes does the GLK. Now we have the GLC which will be matching up to the X1. The GLC is expected to share the motors offered in the A and B class as well as their platform. All wheel drive will be standard, no word on if it will be offered in the USA. ...Published on 02-02-2011 09:13 PM
Brabus is a tuner with a great pedigree. They are able to deliver cars that are almost Mercedes OEM in nature. They demonstrated their ability yet again by being the first to have a tuned car pass the stringent Euro VI emission regulations. This standard does not even go into effect until 2014. The plug and play Brabus tune raises the horsepower of the S350 diesel by 54 hp to 308 with torque going from 457 pound-feet to 509. This is available for all 350 Bluetec models. ...Published on 02-01-2011 03:42 PM
MotorAuthority has put up some new spy photos of the upcoming C class AMG coupe. This model is supposed to be packing a 5.5 liter 422 horsepower naturally aspirate V8 which will be shared with the new SLK AMG. We find that a big disappointing since Mercedes has a perfectly good M156 6.2 V8 they already put in the C63 AMG. Why neuter the C AMG Coupe? On the bright side, the Black Series C-coupe is still reportedly coming with the M157 twin turbo V8. ...Published on 02-01-2011 03:22 PM
A teaser rendering was put up a couple days earlier but now we have the real thing. You will notice the higher nose setup on the car which is a major change. Mercedes finished 4th last season which was a return for the Mercedes GP team and with the great Michael Schumacher driving for them in 2011 we expect big things. BenzBoost.com will keep you updated on the Mercedes 2011 Formula 1 season. ...Published on 01-31-2011 01:17 PM
Autoweek is reporting that Mercedes plans an entry level 4 door coupe as well as AMG A class. The CLC may be based on the new A class and an AMG variant may come as well. The powertrain would likely be the same dual clutch transmission that Mercedes plans to use in their GLC (entry level SUV slotted below the GLK). What we have to wonder is if the A class will make it to the USA this time as the CLC is a sure bet. ...Published on 01-30-2011 12:30 PM
Mercedes GP Petronas had been doing teasers of the new car and now they have revealed the full design. You will likely notice first the new color scheme. Here are the results from testing and tuning of OE Tuning's C63 AMG. This car belongs to OE Tuning's tuner, Jeremy. At the time of the first dyno session the car had approximately 2000 miles on it. Before the dyno, the car had custom tri-Y long-tube headers and full exhaust made which were designed by Gintani (now off the car to finish production jigs). The car ran an 11.6@121 at the Famoso drag strip with the following mods: header back cat-less Gintani X-pipe with Gintani Full exhaust & Mufflers + OE Tune + Sunoco 104 gas + Continental Sport stock street tires. ...Published on 01-28-2011 11:52 AM
GWA tuning has been doing some very interesting things with Mercedes modification. You may remember their take on the Mercedes C111 from a few weeks back. The Pagoda is based on a classic Mercedes W121 chassis with a Mercedes 190 2.3 serving as the donor car. The final product is one of a kind with retro and modern muscular looks rolled into one. The powertrain is taken from a Mercedes C43 AMG so it has a a 4.3 liter M113 V8 with a 5 speed automatic. Very well done GWA, but we have to ask, how much $? ...Published on 01-27-2011 06:14 AM
The major roadblock for the C63 AMG has been the transmission whose software has not been cracked preventing tuners from exceeding the limitations. Well, Mercedes has no decided to replace the 7-speed auto in the C63 with their AMG Speedshift MCT transmission. This transmission is a dual clutch, semi-automatic transmission that is also featured in the CLS63 AMG. It is able to handle the torque produced by the twin turbo V8 so perhaps this means the C63 will have a higher torque capacity than the old 7G-tronic automatic which was limited to 542 pound-feet of torque. ...Published on 01-27-2011 05:41 AM
Images of the updated C63 AMG were leaked onto the web today. Likely the first thing most will notice is that LED's have been integrated into the bumper. The taillights have also received LED's which are the current fad. The quad exhaust remains untouched as do the powerplants (457 horsepower standard, 487 with the P31 performance pack) but changes to the transmission have been made which will be detailed in a supplementary article. ...Published on 01-27-2011 03:22 AM
Many sites and magazines are reporting that Mercedes intends to bring a diesel C-class to market in the next 3 years. Now, that is a pretty wide window and we expect it to happen sooner than that. Currently, the M, GL, R, E, and S are available with diesels. The GLK is expected to join them by the end of the year. The C-class should be getting a 2.1 liter 4 cylinder diesel producing 204 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. If it does not happen for the 2012 model year then expect it in the next generation C-class but either way, the C will be getting a diesel option. ...Published on 01-25-2011 04:34 AM
The driver actually does a pretty good job getting the G-wagon to slide. We are impressed he didn't flip the thing over with how high the center of gravity is on the car. Note: Don't go and try to drift your SUV now. ...Published on 01-23-2011 05:11 AM
Renntech has released an updated airbox for the M156 63 AMG V8 motors. Renntech claims they optimize the air flow as well as increasing the volume of the airbox. Brabus and Bilstein have released a new adjustable suspension system for the G-class Mercedes. A control unit in the cabin allows the driver to adjust the suspension to their preference adjusting the damping rates. The unit can also adjust automatically to varying road conditions. Switches between modes are made basically instantaneously. The cost this hi-tech suspension? $8,000 and it can be fitted to any G-class regardless of model year. ...Published on 01-21-2011 04:52 AM
Many of us were attracted to German performance by BMW. There was a time when they made cars unlike anyone else. Cars that took no short cuts, with motors that represented the best their engineers had to offer. Now what do we have? Anti-tuning ecu's, the same motor in every car, M SUV's, FWD city cars coming, smaller and smaller motors paired with extreme brand dilution. ...Published on 01-19-2011 01:32 AM

Hey Mercedes, what happened to all your manly performance decisions as of late? Autocar is reporting that Herbert Kohler, head of Daimler advanced engineering and future mobility, states that future AMG models will incorporate hybrid technology. "In the future AMG will still offer high performance models but there will be hybrids there,” he said. “AMG needs to reduce fuel consumption." We understand the Porsche 918 and the E-cell has them thinking this can work with performance models but all this means to us is the cars will be A LOT heavier necessitating even more powerful motors to equal performance on lighter platforms. ...Published on 01-18-2011 12:11 AM
How come Canada is getting the cool stuff? Mercedes has announced that Canada will get the limited C63 AMG Affalterbach edition. What is the difference from the regular C63? Well, for starters, it gets the P31 package as standard. So that means a horsepower bump up to 481, forged pistons and rods, different crank, etc, that is included with the package. The interior gets treated as well with Nappa leather wrapped steering wheel, contrasting stitching, carbon fiber accents, and special edition logos. All this for $81,500 Canadian which used to be about 3 American dollars. Only 30 being made, so hurry! ...Published on 01-15-2011 03:00 PM
