    • Race Video: Tuned CLK550 vs. JB4 335

Well, here we go, finally, we have a race involving BB member blkclk550. After 30+ pages of keybord warfare races took place. Now, we are told the 335 was on a 100 octane map. Blaizon, the 335 owner, said he would run a 93 octane map. The CLK does pretty well seemingly getting the jump each time and holding it. The cars seem pretty evenly matched with the JB4 having a slight top end advantage. The commentary by whomever filmed was humorous but we could do without it. Either way, look at the vids and decide for yourself.

Tune only N54's tend to "seem" really quick because of the added torque, but in reality arent at all once you get past 60mph where horsepower matters (in retrospect to M5's, C63, etc...). What really awakens them is the downpipes (engine is really choked there) and intercooler/meth - once you have that you can raise boost MUCH higher with proper timing without detonation or knocking......and then those cars are monsters.

Best bang for the buck is an N54 with a JB4 and Meth....you can hit 118+ trap speeds off less than 1000$ of mods (I mean, hotrod did it, but who knows because hes also on the west coast where the cars magically trap 3mph higher)...but you get the idea.

        Quoted for truth.

Are you referring to Sacramento? It's funny, cause, outside of Sactown, the West Coast isn't known for being fast. It's the East, with Atco and Mir that has the cold and the great DA. At least, that's the way it seems with the C63's, which are N/A.

I did some rolls in my C63 (stock except for lighter rotors, -40lbs) against the tuned 135(N54), we really weren't getting crazy cause it's on the street (back streets actually), but just going from like 30 mph. We weren't even honking, just letting one car get the hit and the other tries to catch. That may sound kind of silly, but it was fun and we weren't looking for trouble.

I noticed that once that little 135 gets going, it's like a jackrabbit--hard to catch. But, if the C63 (stock) gets the hit, it pulls a couple car lengths before you even get to 90 mph.

Anyway, my buddy is getting downpipes so it should make his car really quick.

        Sticky,

Speaking of the importance of hp for speeds upward of 60 mph, I was interested to see the 60-130 times for N54-55's. So, I checked the list on this site (very helpful, btw) and I noticed a large disparity between a 135 and a 335. Here's the examples that I'm talking about:

        9.09 - hotrod182 / 335i w/ JB3 piggyback ECU / 2-shifts
        10.3 - TerryBMS / 135I JB3/ TIP / Bolt Ons, weight reduction / 91+Meth / 2 shifts

I don't know which year these cars are so not sure about T or TT, but outside of driver skill, why such a large gap in times? The 135 is lighter and should be making more power with meth.

boost used dedication to get the best possible time. most FBO N54's are in that mid 9.x range from what i have seen lately. HR seems to be at the top of the list for overperformers

Thanks for the reply. I forgot about boost.

Can you run different psi within the JB3 tune?

Well, because Hotrod lies and downplays mods to make his car seem faster for less mods. He is known to strip his car out and then go do runs. If you want a realistic number go by Terry, he is reputable.

Mr.5 has done mid 9.x 60-130 runs on a GIAC stg2+ at full weight. which is 17psi i believe

        ** correction -Mr.5 has done 9.6.
so with more boost and less weight, anything is possible, but again, mid 9's can be expected for upper level perfomance oriented people.

(god i wish my vbox saved that data for mine a few days ago. things are gonna get interesting here real soon Click here to enlarge

Yes, but different tunes, the disparity between JB tunes was being highlighted and I think we know the explanation for it.

power delivery of tunes is different also. 60-130 is still a growing trend. the lack of available space to do it is really the prohibitive force behind the lack of customer data.

He did but there are some mechanical issues I believe he said he needs to take care of. So, I think he intends to fix those, and then re-dyno.
