    • Whipple releases revised Gen 3 2.9 liter twin screw blower with new case and rotor profile - Before/After dyno

The 2.9 liter Whipple twin screw supercharger is very popular in the Domestic world and also in the Mercedes-AMG M156 market. Weistec for example utilizes Whipple twin screw blowers in their Stage III+ M156 applications which break into the 9's on the stock internals.

It will be interesting to see if the third generation supercharger will be utilized although the new casing may pose some fitment issues.

Regardless, check out these results on a Mustang GT with no changes other than moving to the new blower:

That is an impressive pickup in power and torque from 3000 rpm on.

Not only is the Gen 3 making more power it is also running up to 80 degrees cooler. It is much more efficient.

The Gen 3 features new rotors with precision, robotically sprayed, conformal PTFE coating that adapts to the application and clearances needed. The rotors also feature a profile change, along with tighter tolerances that minimize power consumption and leakage. The updated rotor housing features revised port timing and bearing shape for increased rotor filling, along with a new, angled rib pattern for a more aggressive look.

They sell Stage III without forged. They won't sell this new blower without forging?

What is Stage IV that you're referring to?

Next size up on there blower
        It's either a 4.0 or 3.5litre

Not sure why they say you need forged engine but what difference does it make if your forged or not

Oh as far as I know they don't officially do anything larger. You would be on your own there.

Do they pull apart your motor and inspect it? Say it's forged. Ridiculous policy either way.

^ very understandable act in their market. From what ive seen Benz community is not that enthusiast oriented. You do something beyond the company’s safe levels, $#@!s break down, people say this company sucks, someone else comes in and tells how coworker of his neighbors cousin had a bad experience with said company and it turns into a real $#@! show real fast.

You hit the nail on the head for half the reason. Yes, pushing past limits greatly increases chance of failure and sometimes itís hard for people to accept that which leads to blaming others when in fact itís a normal and expected thing among enthusiasts.

The other half is safety. It can be incredibly dangerous to have an engine fail while running down the quarter mile. If a rod fails, it will break holes in the block and dump all the oil onto the track right in the path of the rear tires. The driver can lose control causing a crash, either into the wall, or into the car in the next lane. A built engine helps reduce the chances of catastrophic engine failure which in turn helps keep things safer when racing.

Going bigger than Stage 3 is a lot more involved than just running a bigger supercharger. We have done it in the past but few are truly willing to do everything that must be done to go bigger than Stage 3

What is that? Is that your stage 4 intake setup looks similar to mine

what is involved in the blower setup I mean we have mastered the straight e85 conversion so no reason why we can't push the envelope further

Only reason I have stopped is I've maxed the stage 3 fuel setup but upgrading mine shortly to e85

we have tried 57mm pulley on stage 3 but all that happens is boost peaks earlier but flatenns out to 60mm boost levels (IATS raise)

we have maxed stage 3 blower

If you are maxed out your only option is a bigger blower.

Basically, you have to call Weistec.

So will Weistec be offering this new updated version to stage 3 owners? Very interested in the fact that this new one is supposed to run quite a bit cooler. I'm seeing 50 degrees above ambient just crusiing around town, (85degrees outside, and IAT's at 135 degrees). Way too hot in my opinion. When I do a highway pull from 80-140mph, I see IAT's at 200+ degrees!!! Very scary.
