    • Just a reminder the M157 is a torque monster - Eurocharged tuned Mercedes C216 CL63 AMG tops 784 lb-ft of torque at the wheels

The M157 5.5 liter V8 may be getting phased out by the M177/M178 4.0 liter architecture but that just means the M157 is becoming an increasingly great AMG tuning value proposition. Just look at these ECU tune only figures from Eurocharged form a C216 CL63 AMG.

      Yes, ECU tune only:

154 lb-ft of torque at the wheels picked up. At 3644 rpm the difference is a staggering 170 lb-ft of torque. Night and day does not even cover it.

The torque curve levels off toward redline so the peak horsepower increase is not quite as massive but this motor is all about the low end.

      Phenomenal gains.

That's insane for stock down pipes, might need to switch to a Eurocharged tune. Hate that this motor was phased out, it should have stayed in the larger AMG's and the 4.0 for the C63's...

That is still how it is for now... the bigger models still use the M157 but that will change soon.

No longer. New S63 has the M177 and that means the coupe will very soon and I'm sure the SL63 will switch over in the next 6-9 months.

Is a shame that this torque monster is going away, it's like an M275-lite. And sounds great too. There's a video of one of these CL63s with a tune only hitting 212 mph indicated quite easily. Great value. They continue to get cheaper by the minute on the used market.

I think that overall the M177 will be a good next step though. Also a torque monster with aftermarket tunes, revs quite a bit higher, is smaller, lighter, more efficient, probably will be easier to do upgraded turbos too vs. the M157...not that this was a problem that existed. I think MB is quoting 664 pound feet for the new S63, which is the same as they quoted for the outgoing M157 S63.

It's better than the M275 IMO. Lighter with a much better top end.
