The Golf R uses an older 2.0 turbo design that is referred to as the FSI. For these motors, APR believes there is a lot of power to be picked up in the heads when going for big boost such as their Stage 3 and Stage 4+ packages. APR purchased a Centroid 5 axis head porting machine (see it in action in the video below) which allows APR engineers to create identically ported heads every time they are loaded onto the machine. ...

APR does absolutely great work on the VW platforms and this is no different. Eventually in builds taken to a high level the rods and pistons become a weak point in the 2.0 motors. APR suggests upgrading the rods when going beyond the Stage 3 pump gas level. The pistons here use the same compression ratio as the stock Golf R which APR feels is best and are coated in heat resistant material. APR also does a balance shaft delete which frees up some rotational mass. ...

This is just an absolutely absurd Volkswagen Golf and we love it. The car in the video below is a MK2 Golf that has been retrofitted with 4Motion all wheel drive. The car runs a 1.8 lite 16 valve motor on E85 fuel with a Garrett GTX4202R turbo for about 900 horsepower. Combine that with a 2500 pound curb weight and you get a mean VW Golf. The ECU was tuned by Boba Motoring in Germany and they claim this is the fastest Golf in the world. ...

Autocar reports the next generation MK7 Golf GTI is getting a boost to 260 horsepower putting it on par with the Golf R and topping the GTI Edition 35. The next generation GTI will also be getting a drop in weight thanks to use of aluminum. In order to put this amount of power down through a front wheel drive drivetrain Volkswagen is giving it a new VAQ differential which employs and electronically controlled Haldex clutch. ...

Well, looks like VW is going to give us the R-Line CC later in the year. Is this big news? Well, not exactly as the changes are minimal. It is the same 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder but it will be mated to an optional 6-speed manual in addition to the DSG dual clutch transmission. Exterior changes are made as well with a sportier front bumper, side skirts, and R-Line logos. Shaded taillights are also included as well as what VW describes as "dramatic" 18 inch wheels. Dramatic? Well, we did not make it up check out the press release below. ...

VW Canada states that the Amarok pickup is being "evaluated" for the Canadian market. We hate to butt in here but there is a much bigger market than Canada that LOVES the pick up truck. There also is plenty of room in this sector as there is not a single mid-size diesel options we can think of. A fuel efficient mid-size with a diesel putting out 177 horses and 310 pound-feet of torque? What is there to debate really, this is a big hole in the market. ...

The Golf R is definitely a cool little hatch that attempts to fill the void left by the absence of the R32. The car has a 2.0 liter turbocharged inline-4 with a horsepower boost to 256. It also gets all wheel drive and a 6-speed manual. The 3407 pound curb weight is not terrible and the all wheel drive is not a huge weight penalty adding roughly 100 pounds. 14.4@97.2 by Insideline for the manual version is certainly respectable but a DSG would be quicker. We wish VW would offer the trans in the USA with the Golf R already. ...

This is a bit of disappointing news. Volkswagen has decided against entering Formula 1 for the 2014 season. The new VW Motorsport director Jost Capito stated, "I've got my hands full with the WRC right now and we have to focus on that. This is the very much the main motorsport programme for us and the board is watching it very closely. I think that's what we have to deliver." ...

The VW group continues right along making money hand over fist. Results beat analysts expectations thanks to higher profits from Audi. How much higher? Well, a 10% increase from last year with profits getting up to 3.21 billions Euros from 2.91 billions Euros at this same point last year. Shares rose more than have in 5 months and despite all of Europe's economic problems the VW group continues to thrive. ...

We love what APR does, really, we do. Well designed and tested products with solid reliability. Recently the development car for their K04 turbo software in the UK was able to put down some impressive times turning low 12's at Santa Pod Raceway in the UK and also hitting high 11's on a VBOX. We do not consider VBOX times the equivalent of a timeslip but clearly the APR software and associated mods are capable of powering a car into the 11's in better conditions (wet out when the runs were made). Good stuff continues to come from APR. ...

This is some very, very nice power available for the 2.0 TSI motors as shown in this MKVI Golf. 405.6 horsepower at the wheels on 93 octane pump gas certainly is impressive. Especially when put in context of the stock horsepower numbers which are 200.4 at the wheels. The factory horsepower was more than doubled by the APR Stage III+ kit. Dyno courtesy of AP Tuning. ...

This whole VW and Porsche saga just keeps getting more and more confusing. Porsche is facing numerous lawsuits that Volkswagen does not want a part of due to the financial liability that would be involved. Deutsche bank analyst Jochen Gehrke stated that a meeting between the parties, “confirmed our view that a merger of Porsche and VW is not possible." So the merger is off but the manufacturing ties will continue and become more involved. Yes, this is all confusing and who knows what will happen. ...

It is no secret Volkswagen wants to improve its model share and creating another model is a good way to do that. VW sees the opportunity to create an entry level four-door coupe done in the same style as the CC but based on the cheaper Jetta platform (instead of the Passat like the CC). This car would be a natural competitor to the upcoming Mercedes CLC which itself is a cheaper, entry level version of the CLS. ...
