    • PAW Motorsport offers N54 ported/polished cylinder head upgrade - $3995

PAW Motorsport is offering a cylinder head upgrade for N54 based BMW vehicles. There is a substantial gain in port flow velocity without a sacrifice in low lift situations. Flowbench charts show an increase of about 35% with gains from 161 cfm to 227 cfm. Both intake and exhaust ports have been ported and polished along with modified intake and exhaust valves. The claimed power gains with the head alone are in the 40 hp range. Charts and pictures are below.

Expect before and after results on a PAW DCT N54 project car in the next few weeks. For those interested in this upgrade there is a core charge in the $2800 range which obviously is refunded when the core is received.

I'm pretty sure they did that car they just never posted the results. I called them last week, they are just swamped with work.

dont be so sure LM, not everyone cares about forums let alone internet hype. just because people dont flaunt their product all over the internet and forums doesnt mean they're not out there. look at all the asr kits that have gone out with no internet fame, and i bet there are a bunch of RB owners and list waiters who do not care for internet forums either, they just want the upgrade. .. and then you have the people who like to be very secretive with their modifications, you could never tell the turbos were upgraded or the head was modified looking at the engine bay, some people like to deceive i guess.

IMO you'd have to be pretty foolish to spend 5k+ to do a mod without seeing results first. I could understand if you were the first ever to do it but if a company had the results of this porting and they were very good you better believe your ass they would have been released already. That's like releasing a tune but not advertising what the gains are. Except this is alot more expensive and more of a pain in the ass to get done and irreversible but ok maybe they want you to take their word that it's good.

Have you tried calling them instead of waiting around for them to satisfy you?

no, i have the cash, they want my cash, then they do the work, not the other way around. if they feel business is good enough for it to speak for themselves, thats fine, but post some info.

EVERYONE cares about money, and a business that claims to have a working upgraded head for a newer platform, would be interested in showing data. and that alone would sell it.. noone is "too busy" to write a 1 paragraph and insert 2 images and let them speak for the product, and then go back to work..

They werent too busy to come here and post they have a set. so why would they be too busy to post the highly anticipated results? well, i know why, we all know why.. we been hearing it for a while. if it doesnt beat the competitor, some guys dont post it..

kinda like upgraded turbo's, if the $#@!s good, have someone post it. call your customer and say "hey, can i post your before and after dyno's to show what we did for you?"

Up to you how you want to approach, sounds to me like their shop is at or over capacity right now.

I think we should be happy someone posted this many details and is offering a quality option rather than berating them for not meeting everyone's demands. You can always call or e-mail...

I've talked to Lenny from PAW a few times over email and they really do sound like a legit shop with a legit product that definitely offers great features...i will most likely go this route this winter/sprint, unless I go for a 997 that I've been eyeballing for a while, build the motor to lower compression to about 9.4, crank boost up to 25-26psi on RBs and call it a day Click here to enlarge

It would for sure be beneficial to potential buyers and for marketing reasons to have this data/dynos but I really think as great as that sounds to us, it might be bad for them as competition can a lot of times be VERY dirty

all im saying, is if these are on a car, and they have before/after, post it up. it would sell itself. i dont care if #'s weren't extraordinarilly high, but equal using less boost, or moving the powerband ect.

We are all aware of the fuel limts, so theres no pride loss if thats the case.

Absolutely right and we would all like to see them.

I'll give them a call and see if I can get it.

I tried messaging paw about the cyl head and for whatever reason didn't get any responses a few times now.

In the meantime I started talking with Chris Bull from VAC Motorsports and they're almost done with their stg3 head. Intake porting work is ready with really good flow numbers. They're still working on exhaust ports and flow testing and have good results there as well. I have their preliminary flow results but will keep them private for now until work is finalized.

Oh and their head should be considerably better priced..

That's good 4 grand for a port and polish job is just ridiculous. Can't wait to see results, this matched with some upgraded turbos will be nice. We are defiantly getting closer to the motors limits but if that's another 10 or 400 hp away we will have to wait and see.

Great, I am planning on having a built motor by the end of the year to swop out with whats left of my stock motor. So doing research and since the head is coming off might as well improve on it.
I do feel that the exhaust housing will be the ultimate restriction though but I plan on bolting on something different.

They have good exhaust flow improvement without upgrading the exhaust valves?
