After Mercedes won the first race of the season at Hockenheim, Audi came back strong winning the second race. The season is poised to have a lot of tight back and forth action with Mercedes and Audi seemingly being very evenly matched early on. A big congratulations to Audi driver Mike Rockenfeller for his first ever DTM win. The next race is in 21 days in Austria. ...

Yes, a ton of wagon discussion as of late. From our BMW F11 M5 touring renderings to the news of the E63 AMG wagon coming to the USA, all the wagon talk convinced our graphic design artist Wild-Speed to show his take on the RS6 Avant. Audi has announced that it will be revealing the new A6 avant next week and we believe an RS6 version is almost sure to follow. Expect it to have a twin turbo 4.0 liter direct injected V8 with horsepower somewhere in the mid to high 500's similar to what is offered in the new Continental GT. ...

Yes, Audi is still coming to market with the all electric R8. It is currently looking like the car will hit showrooms in late 2012. This video shows behind the scenes development and testing of the car. The is impressive with this car is unlike the other electric versions of gasoline automobiles (like the SLS E-cell) there is no major weight penalty with the R8 E-tron. It weighs 3,527 pounds thanks to the use of lightweight materials. With 313 horsepower and a fairly lightweight body, this is shaping up to be an exciting electric sports car. ...

We reported in January of this year that Audi registered the SQ5 and RSQ5 names. It would seem Audi is intent on bringing a performance version of the Q5 to market. We are not sure which version you see testing here, the SQ5 or the RSQ5. Chances are good that the S4 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 will find its way into the car. Rumors right now are that the SQ5 will get the supercharged V6 while the RSQ5 may get the 4.0 turbo direct injected V8. It may also be that we only get the SQ5. Nice work Audi, bring them both on! ...

We knew the Audi S7 was coming from leaked documents detailing the motors going in upcoming models. Spyphotos of camoflauged cars have been circulating the web but now we have undisguised photographs. Nothing shocking here, basically what we expected. A quad exhaust and a more aggressive front fascia on a slightly lowered suspension featuring larger wheels. The car is likely to be unveiled at the Frankfurt show and rumors suggest an RS7 sharing the RS6 powertrain is in the works. ...

Stasis has released their Audi R8 V8 supercharger which bumps the R8 to 540 horsepower. The supercharger is a positive displacement Eaton TVS 1900 pushing 7.5 psi of boost. The supercharger is part of their V8 Challenge Extreme Edition package which includes suspension, brakes, and wheels but what we are mostly concerned with is the supercharger itself which can be purchased separately. No pricing revealed yet an it is only available in the UK at the moment and the UK importer is offering a 10% discount. ...

We often say that less is more and that certainly applies here. The R8 is a beautiful car to begin with and improving on it is not easy. These modifications by Rimsource we do not consider an improvement. Surprisingly, on the Cardomain page for this car there is a lot of praise and we do not understand it. This is the type of modification that appeals to the DUB or bling crowd whose idea of tuning we rarely consider done in good taste. ...

The 1000km of Spa-Francorchamps is the first official race for the Audi R18. 3rd place is not a bad finish obviously but a disappointment considering the R18 had a perfect qualification for the race taking spots 1-3. Audi was bested by Peugeot, their main rival, who took first and second place. We expect Audi to rebound strongly in time for the LeMans 24 hours which will be the real test. ...

AWE Tuning will released their switchpath exhaust for the R8 V10 in the next few weeks. Prior to the official launch, dynographs and videos of the exhaust sound were released. The gains are modest with about 9 horsepower picked up at all 4 wheels. It is nice to see that AWE provided crank and wheel dynos with us obviously preferring the wheel numbers on the Mustang dyno. The exhaust also saves 32 pounds from the rear of the car. Check out the video, the exhaust is worth it for the sound alone. ...

DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) touring car racing is extremely popular in Europe. Most people in the United States are not familiar with it but with DTM racing coming to North America in 2013 it is time to start getting acquainted. There is a good reason they are bringing it here and the video below illustrates it perfectly. The action is intense and the racing is very close with a lot of passing. The race was won by Mercedes with Audi coming in second. ...

Audi sure seems determined to launch as many models as possible. It is no secret they want to fill every niche so that they will surpass BMW as the largest luxury automaker. This has Audi considering production of an A9 coupe for 2014. The coupe would be based on the A8 platform and be positioned as a Mercedes CL competitor. This means a large, heavy, 4 seater with premium pricing. Will it happen? Brand chief Rupert Stadler seems set on it according to reports. ...

We aren't really sure what to say to this. When is the last you heard someone say they wished the Q5 SUV was available as a cabrio? Uh, never. Still, Audi is considering a convertible Q5 to occupy a niche in the market. With how people especially in the USA embrace trendy cars, there may be a business case for this. Brit Steve, director of AUDI USA, stated the following on the production chances, "ďif there is sufficient demand, about 5,000 units per year, then the production of the Q5 Cabrio as a limited edition can be a reality." ...

We all know LeMans is coming up in around 6 weeks and that this is the premier event for the Audi brand. Not hard to see how much emphasis they put on it with their dominance of the race in the past decade. Well, changing regulations have forced Audi to change their motor. The LeMans race car no longer has a twin turbo diesel V10 but instead now will have a single turbo 3.7 liter V6. The regulation changes are designed to prevent the diesels from having such a large advantage. Why? Fuel efficiency is a huge part of the 24 hour race. This 3.7 liter motor has put up a strong showing so far with a claimed output of around 540 horsepower which powered the R18 to the two fastest laptimes in testing. ...

Many people know IND for modifying BMW cars of all types, and we take great pride in our BMW projects. However, our shop gates see much more than just BMWs, and after allowing countless Mercedes, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Audi, and even American Classic cars through our doors undocumented, we decided it was time to share the rest of our work with car enthusiasts. ...

Being a performance oriented site, we will focus a bit on the performance numbers Car and Driver achieved. That said, we are a little bit surprised with this result. The Audi finishes in first place and the BMW 750 winds up in last. Even with its twin turbo V8 the BMW gets beat by all three competitors to 60 and barely edges out the Audi through the 1/4 for second. Being the heaviest obviously didn't help the 750 and it also put up the weakest showing around the skidpad. ...

The 24 Hours of Le Mans has been dominated by Audi for a while now. With the new R18 TDI, it looks like that domination is set to continue. In testing, Audi finished with 3 out of the top 4 lap times. Impressive? Oh yes, and things sure look good for a repeat with the Peugeot 908 being the main challenger. Let's not forget, Peaugeot won in 2009 breaking Audi's 5 year year streak of dominance. Check out the laptimes from the testing sessions below. ...
